I am trying to take public transportation more instead of driving. I am trying to eliminate my spending at Walmart and Amazon entirely. I am trying to use less plastic. I am trying to eat less meat and never get fast food. These tiny acts of resistance add up. I recommend you all try to do the same.

"Green Phoenix" 12"x9" Watercolor & black colored pencil on paper, 2022 My phoenix 'sona was always fiery colors before this, but a few years ago I decided fuck it, I didn't have to make sense, and molted into green plumage! Green has always been my favorite color, so this was sort of a prototype.

There are some reddish markings at the tips of the more decorative feathers. The bird has violet eyes and a grey beak. The bird's back is to the viewer, and it is perched in the leaves of a fantasy orchid, which was inspired by real orchids but ultimately is made up in appearance by the artist. The orchid has glossy and slightly succulent looking leaves, with hanging flowers in yellow and red. A subtle violet wash is blotchy on the background of the white paper. Some behind the scenes on this piece. I first got inspiration during a visit to the Field Museum in Chicago with @doodlize.bsky.social while we were there for C2E2. Seeing the giant paintings of Charles Knight that permeated my childhood really inspired me to redraw one of them that day.
