California QSO party is this weekend! I'll be with a small team at the N6RO superstation this weekend for CaQP, under the call N6O in the Multi Operator/Two Transmitter category.

The Faraway East Coast of the U.S. This morning on FT8, 17m, someone picked up my weak signal. Thanks to that, I woke right up 👀 Thank you, N1RR-san #FT8

Throwback to one of my first times running CW for parks on the air. Boy was I nervous. Carnegie Vehicular Recreation Area, a state park near me. Dirt bikes would pop wheelies past me, fun place.

This will be the first GTA game I don’t buy at launch or for a console. They simply took too long, and the lack of a physical copy is a manor put off. I’m not buying a current gen console for just this. I think it will be impossible to avoid spoilers until I can get it on PC but oh well.

Couple relays that bring in the loading coils on my 40m N6BT vertical dipole, giving me 75 kHz of resonance on 80m band. Tuned for CW/digital ofc. The relays live at the base of the dipole, this little box I put together just sends 12 V power 100ft out from the shack.

Another trip to a state park, another crowd of people wondering what I’m on about hoisting a 40ft/12m pole to slope a 66 ft wire.

The First Operating Class CW club has a lot of members but John G4RCG really is first class. Can’t always pick him up from the UK in California late at night but it’s great to talk to him when I can.

One of my #oldman hobbies: Summits On The Air #SOTA, a ham radio activity that involves hiking to mountain peaks, setting up a portable radio station and making contacts with other operators. Sometimes these other people are in other countries. Today was a fun day on Baldy Mountain, Utah. #hamradio

New backyard monument to my insanity. N6BT Bravo84, a vertical dipole on 40m (primary band) and 80m (tuned for about 75 kHz of usable bandwidth). Claimed 90% efficient within those resonances!

Late shift at N6RO, sharing late night duties with the man himself for a Multi Operator, Single Transmitter entry. You are seeing a happy OM at 1am running good rate on 80m. I had some good rate earlier too, 20m CW to Japan was lit at 140 contacts/hr in spurts. SSB on 20m peaked out at 200 Q’s/hr

40m still gave some joy tonight from California on my low dipole. Got CW QSOs along to East Coast and DX to Australia. Dusted off the mic to get Chile calling on phone. Even when condx are bad there’s good stuff going on!

Around midnight I came back to “Suke” JM7OLW on 20m. Mid QSO he asked me to try 15m. I’ll be damned if he wasn’t loud there too! Worked him on both openings on 100W. First time I’ve experienced a late night 15 m open. Had heard about those upper bands opening up long after dark. Two log entries!
