10m was open to the East Coast and Central/South America today, good stuff!

I’m always amazed when I send a SASE across the world with a few bucks in it…and a card shows up in my mailbox! This was the last one. 15m SSB to Taiwan. Neither of these stations confirm on LoTW.

Had to pull a hard card for this 10m SSB QSO to St Helena Island 13,361 km from Northern California!

California QSO party is this weekend! I'll be with a small team at the N6RO superstation this weekend for CaQP, under the call N6O in the Multi Operator/Two Transmitter category.

Throwback to one of my first times running CW for parks on the air. Boy was I nervous. Carnegie Vehicular Recreation Area, a state park near me. Dirt bikes would pop wheelies past me, fun place.

Couple relays that bring in the loading coils on my 40m N6BT vertical dipole, giving me 75 kHz of resonance on 80m band. Tuned for CW/digital ofc. The relays live at the base of the dipole, this little box I put together just sends 12 V power 100ft out from the shack.

I fat fingered reposting politics, sorry about that. Almost as bad as posting slop.

Some fair points are being made in the thread. 1200 more parks than the whole US in an area smaller than one state…that’s not right. I know this is a US-centric perspective but it’s where the program originated. SOTA has this problem too, devaluation of points from mapping reps going sideways.

Another trip to a state park, another crowd of people wondering what I’m on about hoisting a 40ft/12m pole to slope a 66 ft wire.

Silicone did not get it done, but a bit of leftover packaging headed for the bin is able to block this path. No more 80m bug zapper in the backyard! Repeated the arduous and delicate tuning process a couple more times and I think it’s stable now.

Just a little crispy, 80m tuning coil screw arcing to the chassis.

W2DON @donvision.bsky.social · 27/07/2026

80m is tuned with a couple of these guys. Literally compress or expand the coils to move resonance around. It’s missing all its documentation with nothing online so just have to play with it!

New backyard monument to my insanity. N6BT Bravo84, a vertical dipole on 40m (primary band) and 80m (tuned for about 75 kHz of usable bandwidth). Claimed 90% efficient within those resonances!

Egypt is my best bet I think. I'm cooked for getting NE Africa from West Coast USA till next solar peak. Once in a while, during a workday, I get an alert for an SU but I'm never at my radio. This guy is EQSL only! What would I do with that?? Paying for LoTW for a guy at their home is trash btw.

Late shift at N6RO, sharing late night duties with the man himself for a Multi Operator, Single Transmitter entry. You are seeing a happy OM at 1am running good rate on 80m. I had some good rate earlier too, 20m CW to Japan was lit at 140 contacts/hr in spurts. SSB on 20m peaked out at 200 Q’s/hr
