The gvt might consider their own IT developers, which have had some clear successes. Register to vote is the one that comes to mind first. Does what it needs to, simple UI, doesn't need superfast connection to use, and survives the last minute rush. As far as I can tell it's quite secure too.

3km walk this afternoon. It took a couple of hours, but it took about that long to do 2km earlier this week. I may have turned a corner mentally. Earlier this year 300m was my limit and I got used to thinking that was it. Now I know the local Co-op and back is not a problem and I can go further.

Now I'm wondering if the AI pushers are caught in the trap of a teenager desperate to get their parents to publicly forbid them doing something risky that they no longer want to do after weeks of whining and successful arguments.

The bank has corrected the spelling of my name again! I know because it has sent me a marketing email using, in irate parent style, both my given names in addressing me. I know what happens next—someone spots the discrepancy and restricts my accounts for possible money laundering… Bah😡

Advice needed In the UK with urban foxes passing through the garden frequently particularly at night, but sometimes in the day. Yesterday C found a fox sitting on the workbench in the garage. Both surprised. He left the garage doors open and repaired the damaged door where it presumably got in.

Joy. New improved android 17 stopped Duolingo from playing audio clips over Bluetooth in a timely manner. The solution? Involves turning developer mode on, exposing the phone's vitals to incautious poking, and poking it in the right place. Alt text has full instructions.
Turn off Bluetooth LE Audio Hardware Offload in your system's Developer Options to fix the current Duolingo conflict with Android 17 and wireless earbuds. Android 17 introduces a known framework bug where short-burst audio files—like Duolingo’s spoken phrases—fail to route to Bluetooth earbuds quickly enough, causing complete silence or cut-off words.1. Change the Android 17 Developer SettingsThis is the most successful community fix for Bluetooth audio clipping and cutting out on newer Android platforms:Open your phone's Settings menu.Scroll to the bottom and tap About phone.Tap Build number 7 times until you see a prompt saying you are a developer.Go back to the main Settings menu, tap System, and choose Developer options.Scroll down to find Disable Bluetooth LE audio hardware offload.Turn this toggle ON.Restart your phone for the system framework change to take effect.

This is as close as we got to totality. 91% coverage, I think.

The sun returns. It's getting noticeably lighter and, I think, a little hotter again. Really showed that it's the direct radiation that makes you feel the heat more than the air temperature which didn't change so much. Now to see what I have on the camera.
Images of the eclipse made by gaps in tree leaves acting as pinhole cameras on a cream wall.
The shadow is interrupted by light cresents.

Don't about 35% of women who eat in the first trimester have a miscarriage? I'm old, we suspected, but we didn't know. And we didn't tell anyone until we were safely past the third month.

I've not seen Nolan's film yet, but there is a passing mention that puzzles me. Did this horse fall over submerging the hidden Greeks? Because this is the mediteranian — tidal rise is about a foot and they would have known that. Niggle expressed and off my chest.
Tha Atlantic article says "Nolan’s horse rears upright rather than standing on four hooves. The unwieldy creature is discovered half-buried in the sand, and proves almost impossible for the Trojans to lug into the city. This cinematic prop is an extraordinary feat of engineering: It stands nearly 40 feet tall and took hundreds of people to drag up the beach. The physical horror of people being trapped inside as the seawater rises is brilliantly and terrifyingly evoked."

I have a bowl of pineapple chunks, one of my tiny activia pots from the fridge, a paper cup of pretty hot tomato soup, a pre-packed cheese sandwich, and a dessert sized spoon, fork and knife to eat them with. It's not bad as a meal, but the physical logistics of eating it are going to be interesting.

That's another not-insignificant earthquake. I begining to wonder if the anomalous temperature changes in the atmosphere and oceans are altering the pressure enough to trigger some tectonic plates to release stress. I would have said nah, not enough, but this is not in normal ranges.

Accurate.
Screenshot of a social media post by Angus McIntyre (@angusm@mastodon.social). The post humorously claims that the UK government's plan to teach 10 million British children how to use VPNs could become one of the largest IT education projects ever. It jokes that experts support the scheme because peer education and incentives will help it succeed, and includes a mock quote saying that, with the rise of autocratic governments worldwide, VPN literacy is more important than ever and that the project comes at the right time. The humour derives from the implication that government internet restrictions would encourage widespread VPN use among young people.

My daughter learns how to do things in Excel from YouTube. It seems to work for her. I spent a lot of my working life writing, and rewriting, numbered instructions on worksheets only to be told "I didn't understand 1 or 2 so I started at 3." Each to their own. My reference manuals stay in my CDH

If I were to be polled, I might very well say immigration was my top concern. I am deeply concerned that my government is constructing unfair procedures in the service of policies unsupported by evidence in an effort to attract racist voters. And yet my concern will be read as being one of them.

Gotcha evolve with the front cover prised off.

It's a small circuit board largely taken up by a display panel. The board is held down by 4 cross screws. The cover was glued on and there is a lot of that glue still on the case.

Bad immigration economics assumes every extra person is one less seat. Good economics notices they also bring a seat, a side dish, and demand for the bloke selling drinks. The first story is fear; the second is how economies work.

Isn't this a telling aspiration? To want robots to look after your kids, so you can do stuff, rather than robots to do stuff, so you can spend time with your kids? The darkness inside these shrivelled men must be like a gaping unfillable void.
NOW - Musk: "My prediction is there'll be more robots than people... everyone on Earth is going to have one and going to want one... who wouldn't want a robot to... watch over your kids, take care of your pets... we are in the most interesting time in history."
