Hell, I had some people trying to prove they were better than me simply by tone policing my "fuck you, love yourself, no more self-pitying wallowing" shit a month or so ago. They took actual, obvious encouragement and tried to make it "you are being mean to me" so they could elevate themselves.

someone asked a dude who'd been stalking me over similar things (he'd go as far as to edit screencaps or simply lie about what was posted) why he did it and his response was basically that he hated himself and felt he was inadequate and didn't think it was fair I didn't hate myself for him

yes, there are "people who can't read due to three-queueing," which is a theory people often point towards (me included) for why people will say "well _I_ think [thing you just said as if you didn't]" and "so you hate waffles" but no, there's just a buncha people who are desperate to be better.

so they look at what you say, interpret it in the worst possible light, and very, very loudly tell everyone this must be sign of a greater evil! and of course you said you liked pancakes, so they are saying "look, everyone, this person hates waffles" to score points specifically

there's a certain kind of person you encounter on social media--nobody I've talked with recently, mind you, just thinking about a conversation a while back--where they're not here to talk to you, a person. their goal is to prove how righteous they are in front of an imagined audience.

YouTube hasn't paid out music streaming earnings to Distrokid for almost two months with no communication, so my income has been cut in half just for fun. It's a startling reminder that the entire streaming ecosystem could just go away overnight because a tech company lets it. Buy albums if you can.

Another classic, not sure if I've already posted this one here.
The image is a six panel black and white comic.

Panel 1 - a girl sits at her desk in front of a computer, looking disheartened. She says, "I dont know if I should post this art, who would even want to see it?"

Panel 2- A new person bursts through the door in the background with a loud BAM

Panel 3- The new person pushes the girl out of the way, smushing her face in the process, while slamming their fist down on the keyboard.

Panel 4- The computer shows that the art has been posted

Panel 5- The person makes direct eye contact with the girl while pushing their finger against their own phone screen

Panel 6- A motion blur is added to the last panel, enhancing the impact of the new notifications on the new post. It reads, "(Friend) Liked Post just now" Followed by "(Friend) commented 'I FUCKING LOVE THIS AND I LOVE U'"

Underneath the last panel is a watermark that reads, Shubbabang

Started reading a Gears of War novel and I was completely unprepared for the realness
From Aspho Fields by Karen Traviss

“Well, shit," Cole said cheerfully. "I had my fortune stashed here."
Cole had been a pro thrashball star, a rich man in a world long gone. Wealth was measured in skills and barter now. He always treated his worthless millions as a big joke; he could find humor in just about any situation. But there was nothing much left to buy that a Gear needed. Dom decided that when life returned to normal-even after fourteen years, he had to think that it could—he'd follow Cole's example and treat money as easy come, easy go. People were what mattered. You couldn't replace them, and they didn't earn interest. They just slipped away a day at a time, and you had to make the most of every precious moment.

A pair of kittens gazed up through the aquarium's shimmering blue waters as a (relatively) enormous fish passed overhead. One kitten stared transfixed through the glass while the other, unfazed, was more interested in darting around playfully.

i respect this list. obviously rayquaza, being the best pokemon, had to be disqualified in advance, because his region is simply The Entire World and so he is always a regional variation, but due to him being too excellent, he could not be on this bracket. that makes sense and I approve of this

basically it's not super great at letting the player go "Oh, I know where I am and where I am going," and in a game that wants a lot of backtracking, this is a must. One way Resident Evil does this is that you're often unlocking 'wings' of a building which all have different art

I think part of the issue is that they're not differentiating areas with primary colors to drive them + the meandering hallways and "squeeze through this/duck under this" + "a lot of cover is half height so you can see places you can't get to" is not really something you can fix

You don't really have a central area in the fish market to come back to and get your bearings straight. I think that's important in survival horror game levels. Make an area recognizable and entice the player to go out on their next adventure into a new area of the map.

correct, I was there around 2005 when a LOT of people were having arguments about video game controls, and several of those arguments came from people defending tank controls and other people defending RE4's then-new weird action gameplay

That's also not why horror games controlled like that. They had tank controls so they could offer cinematic camera angles and better visuals than their contemporaries with pre-rendered backgrounds. The sentiment that they control bad to be scary just comes from people disliking tank controls.

The guns in RE2 and Silent Hill feel great and don't have these issues. The Classic Resident Evil 2 shotgun is probably one of the most iconic shotguns in video games.

I just finished it over the weekend. The combat was my least favorite part of the game. I also backed it on Kickstarter and played a few playtests, and my feedback was always "you need it to play as smooth as a Resident Evil game if that is what you're going for or else people will get frustrated."

I agree with all your points: guns are too weak, enemies are too fast, the enemies that resurrect from the worms are fucking annoying, it takes too long to kill, etc. I think if they rebalanced a few things they'd have a good survival horror game as I liked exploring the levels. But it needs polish.
