Of the €85m available for the fuel support scheme, around €60m was unclaimed as of August, though more may have been claimed since. I'm sure that had nothing to do with needing receipts and a tax clearance certificate to make a claim. Must have been something else.

I accept that. But it definitely has a ring of truth, especially in light of the whole Macklemore debacle. And I don't doubt for a second that the decision about whether or not to play this game has far wider implications for the players than just one game.

Particularly when those players have been put in a position where even if they make the right decision now, they'll in effect be protecting the people who should have been making decisions but didn't and who will walk away unschathed.

That's a little glib. Many of these players are young, they want to play the game - it's all they know - and to play it at the highest level possible. I doubt many of them want to play this game but they've been put in a position where it could be career ending if they do not. That's not easy.

There are just over 100 data centers now, add those under construction or with planning for 150. So a puny 22 jobs each. Most in facilities management and security, not tech. Estimated to use almost 30% of the electricity we produce. The Govt fascination with billionaires is expensive and we'll pay.

These things are bloodsuckers on a country. And completely misnamed, it isn't about 'data' that is of some use, that would need a fraction of what's being built. They are AI centres largely powering nothing of worth while stealing power from everything of value.

I don't much either - don't have a TV - but I got sucked into watching The Traitors on the player for exactly that reason. And realised why it's better I don't have a TV - immediately addicted. Have even watched back the entire first series!

When I was practicing as a vet I had some interaction with racing and with owners. Some owners were pretty good, other, well, far far below good. Most of the latter drifted away from me as I wasn't 'helpful' enough. I am not a bit surprised either.

Online advertising is so completely broken. Bought a pair of shoes, from an Irish site. I am now followed by ads everywhere for those *identical* shoes, some from the same store. Shoes I already own, new. Whoever pays for such ads is robbed. I'm put off the seller. Someone gets richer.

The rise in AirBnB etc has been mirrored by the fall of 3 star hotels, B&Bs, Guesthouses. Good places to stay that don't have the pools and spas that make hotels unaffordable. They were previously vital for local tourism. They accommodated visitors & employed locally until their market was stolen.
