The €1bn spent on fossil fuel sinces April would have put 8kw battery & solar on 100,000 homes buying them energy freedom for 20+ years. The €1bn+ that will be spent over the next few months would bring that to 250,000 homes. What we lack is will and vision

Ireland is falling short of its afforestation targets. In 2025, 2,527 hectares of new forest were planted, against an annual target of 8,000 hectares. The Council says the next Forestry Programme must address the barriers holding back participation. Read more: shorturl.at/lonRa

Listening to a man at the farmers market explain he’s out of eggs as “the ladies aren’t producing due to heat stress”— and another poultry vendor says he’s out, as he can’t keep them in this heat. Climate change is all around. We just have to open our eyes to see how it’s affecting our daily lives.

The water flow in the Rhine keeps plummeting. It had never been below 780 m³/s in summer. When we were at 650, an expert told us it couldn't go much lower. Now we're at 572 m³/s, the lowest on record, even below the ice blocked flow in the winter of 1929.

Government indicating in various papers today that (a) the Sept 1st increase in petrol and diesel levies probably cannot go ahead, if it means pushing diesel beyond €2/litre, and (b) they won’t recall the Dáil to avert it because that would seem skittish. It has to be one or the other…
