WIP! Leather is done! Metallics are mid step. Base of Leadbelcher is down and first layer of Nuln Oil (some complex areas will get a second tap, I can be heavy handed on battlefield quality models).

The company my pension (ha) plan is through has a podcast and I keep getting emails like “two new episodes are available to listen to!” Who are listening to these?! Who is buckling down for a riveting episode 12 about saving for retirement (that will never come)???

WIP! More work on the SageScribe. Didn’t do much as after all day tournamenting I didn’t really want to look at minis for too long. Still some face work needing to be done too. Now featuring my new idea of “also let’s look at it from a real human distance images”

A successful Blood Bowl Labour Bowl tournament today! Great friends, great matches! Played Goblin Kontraptions and had an absolute blast! I have never seen a Vampire team manage to eat itself into losing two matches before. #bloodbowl

So so so proud to announce I hopped over 100 subscribers on my Youtube channel last night. I’m pretty pleased because it’s an old old old school style of let’s play and theres no algorithm chasing at all. Nothing special video-wise to celebrate, I’m just proud of myself for it :)

Now reading! The Pirates of Zan and The Mutant Weapon. Both by Murray Leinster in a lovely Ace Double. Originally dated to 1959, this Ace Double is dated to ‘71 www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.c...

Despite me not even having a face cam, these are the top searches leading to people finding my content on YouTube. Apparently.

WIP! Added the leathers, brown cloth, white cloth, and a few other odds and ends. Metallics, trinkets, and a few bits left. And base. I’d say “finished tomorrow” but tomorrow is loaded with strike related work (still not on strike, but could be Saturday) so I don’t think I’ll have brush time.

WIP! Back to doing regular old Blood Bowl through the week. Pretty sure I remember how to do these, been a few weeks of other projects.

Finished up this little scenery piece. It came with Gumple as basically a resin gate. A bit of cleaning and polyfill and it was ready! #wepaintminis #paintslam2026 #miniatures #minis #nerdlings

Spent some time this morning prepping the poster for The Labour Bowl. Typically held on Labour day, it's now ironically held on the day that 3 of the 8 coaches could be on actual strike that day. Two editions! #bloodbowl

Spent an afternoon with my dear longtime friend of 25 years today. @halcyon-daves.bsky.social toddled up from below and we spent the afternoon painting and talking of how old we now are and how much our hobby has changed. Painted gnomes for each other as gifts :) Missed you, you tall bastard.

My beloved wife, that’s Mrs Dr Dropkick, surprised me with an absolutely wonderful birthday gift. A Ral Partha legacy diorama called “Try, Try Again”. Originally sculpted by Tom Meier. Tossed in some extra frogs too. Can’t wait to start on this!

I did a full re-record of Quake 1 because I hated how the first run turned out. You can see the ENTIRE SERIES RIGHT NOW because I’m releasing it all today! Four chapters, four videos, greatly enhanced video quality, same inability to use grenades. youtu.be/BTP9lU_SafM

Taking a few days and going up the peninsula. The burnout has been absolutely brutal the last… well… months. Functioning is getting harder and harder. So it’s me, Mrs Dr Dropkick, and a pile of books until I return on Thursday. And return to work on Monday. I’m sure I’ll be fixed by then.

One thing I love about pulpy sci fi is the Marketplace section they always have. I like trying to figure out what some of this meant. I like the “send us your age, sex, and nationality and we’ll tell you who you are”

WIP from last night. This little terrain piece was part of Gumple, so I wanted to get it going. Hoping to finish it tonight as we’re going away for a few days tomorrow and I won’t be able to paint.

Now reading! On Spec is such a cool magazine. Canadian sci fi and fantasy; and had an astounding run from 1989 to Dec 2025! This issue is from Spring 2013, and I’m really looking forward to reading what dwells within :)

DocDropkick @docdropkick.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Hit up World of Retro Computing Expo 2026 with @jiveturkey.bsky.social and had a blast. Took basically no photos but imagine the sound of 100 C64 keyboards all at once. Also confirmed my belief the PET is the best looking computer, even though you have to have a lab coat to use it.

WIP! Bombur and Gumple have been looking at me for some time waiting to be done. Finally took dear Gumple off the shelf and got started. First time trying verdigris as well. Hopefully more tomorrow. Sculpted by the excellent @rossydoesdrawings.bsky.social

At long last it's finished! So happy with how this new low-profile Blood Bowl pitch has come out. The effort is always worth it when I hear the oohs and aahs of the players! And Mrs Dr Dropkick has the table back. That's good too! #bloodbowl #warhammer #wepaintminis #nerdlings #paintslam2026

Is there anything better than cleaning the workspace up after a major project? Organized desk, organized mind :) Pitch pictures coming soon! This dang app keeps crashing every time I try to post them. Will try from desktop in the morrow :)

*pleased Canadian noises* Ordered myself a little something as an early birthday gift. Had one forever ago but it was lost to the mists of time, now he’s back in the collection and I couldn’t be happier! Bonus: shipped with UK newspaper so now I know whats goin’ on in Croyden! #oldhammer

WIP! My friends, we are SO CLOSE. The lines have been painted and as I’m posting this the edges are drying. Once they’re fully dried it’s varnish, then take off the paper bottom and glue on to foam core and then… DONE! Tomorrow, I can feel it. Tomorrow!

Literally me if I had to blend together like a purple or something.

Now reading! Galaxy always seemed like a bit of a mess. Amazing content but I mean from an editorial standpoint. Dates not printed on issues, incorrect issue numbers. Typos in author/story names. Artists only sometimes credited. But they had some great content. Just a mess as a pulp collector!

DocDropkick @docdropkick.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

WIP! PAINT DAY! Finally. After days and days of putty and paste. It’s paint time. Really happy with how these have come out. Giving a good “torn up grass field” look. Still to do: lines, paint the sides, varnish. Recipes below!

DocDropkick @docdropkick.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

WIP! Pitch is printed, processed, sanded, glued, puttied, sanded again, and now the primer is drying. NOW at last, we can get to the good stuff. Also, I had *barely* enough texture paint. Phew.

DocDropkick @docdropkick.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

WIP! Not much nicer in the world then pulling an old model out of the paint stripper and seeing it back to that beautiful, shiny pewter. Before and after :)

So. After seeing this model I decided I wanted to snag one myself, I had an idea for a fun diorama. Then a wonderful friend today surprised me with this as a lovely early birthday gift! Guess it’s planning time!
