None of those numbers are correct. Median liquid income in the US is $8000, average credit card balance is $7000, but only 40-45% of people have any credit card debt at all.

Being one of the 535 people that create legislation for the US is an incredibly important job, and if we want qualified people to take those jobs they need to be appropriately compensated or you just get independently wealthy people in those roles.

No, the median income went up, and for a number of those years the wages of the people in the lowest 25% went up by the highest percentage.

You should be, he is directly responsible for prices going up right now. That doesn't explain why people were so upset about relatively normal inflation over the past 3ish years before he kicked out the Iran situation.

Doail @doail.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Other than the spike in 2022 wage growth has outpaced inflation since ~2012. Now, with price rises due to the Iran situation that is/will soon no longer be the case. But that doesn't explain people's sentiment about it being so much worse than reality over the past years. bsky.app/profile/whst...

Here it is with annualized wage changes since 1997 (if you can find this data back to 1978, I'll extend it the full way). It looks messy but I don't think it really solves the mystery. Wage growth was normal the last few years and well above inflation for most of it.

Sure but incomes have increased faster than inflation since 2020 so people's buying power is up even if prices are also up. (this was true through the beginning of the recent Iran related prices increases and might no longer be true)

The bottom quartiles had the highest income increases over that period.

While that is a good point, a record low percentage of people are making the Federal minimum wage now. It was ~13% of people in the 70s and only about 1% now.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

Yes, I think so personally, but I also know I would take home less money under that system even accounting for premiums and deductibles and I am good with that. A lot of people would not be cool with having less money in their pocket.

Sure but people don't seem to realize you can't tax the 1% your way into even M4A let alone a robust safety net. At the very least you'll be taxing the top 50% more.

Stuff like that is one of the many reasons I think "Medicare for all that want it" is better than a pure M4A type system. There are a number of countries with public/private universal healthcare instead of single payer and I think we should push for that here over single payer.

my general contribution to slur discourse is that most of the people who want to argue with you about whether something is a slur because they want to use it are going to inevitably say some other offensive shit at some point that won’t be debatable

ok, here's the deal on clanker discourse no one cares if you call a robot 'clanker' what this means is abusive behavior directed at an inanimate object. no one believes this harms the object at all abusive behavior is toxic and harms the person being abusive a lot of people like being abusive

The image is a screenshot of a Bluesky post in dark mode. At the top is a post by Hank Green, shown with a verified badge and the handle @hankgreen.bsky.social. The post is a humorous comment about parenting a nine-year-old while wearing glasses. Below it are the timestamp and engagement statistics, including 877 likes.

Under the main post is a visible reply from c t (@whatulysses.bsky.social). The reply shifts to a critical tone, asking Hank Green, in his role as a science communicator, to address concerns about his reported use of generative AI and its implications for trust in science communication.

Post text:

> “Having a nine year old and wearing glasses is always having a bruise on the bridge of your nose.”

Reply text:

> “I know this is a cute Wendy's level-post but as a science communicator it would mean a lot if you took a moment to acknowledge how much the revelations of your use of genAI earlier this month might be a problem for the entire trust ecosystem of science communication?”
