We should be furious to live in a country that does this—to be at the mercy of a flailing empire that always chooses death and conquest over peace and justice. We should be furious at a political system that makes it so much easier to kill people than to help them. We should be furious at an establishment that lusts so ardently for war, and that has so much contempt for humanity. We should be furious at the untrammeled power of a global ruling class that causes so much suffering. And we should recommit to the most important task ahead: destroying as much of that power as we can.

See the pattern here? Don’t fund “this version of ICE.” Don’t fund “without serious reform.” “Rein in” ICE and DHS. These are deliberately slippery terms. They suggest that there is some version of ICE that could be supportable. “Beef up training” and maybe that’ll do the trick, right?

Wrong. There’s no good ICE waiting out there if only some sober legislators put their heads together. We have seen far more than enough to know that. There isn’t some way around the truth: you’re either for the complete and utter abolition of these storm troopers, or you’re part of the problem.

So sharp from @caitschneider.bsky.social in @discourseblog.com on the dreadful both-sidesing of Renee Nicole Good's murder www.discourseblog.com/p/renee-nico...
Good was reportedly a “legal observer” and was killed for it. There’s no clearer message about where this country is at than that. It is already normalized in America that cops can kill kidnap, assault, and kill people, and can do so for any reason. We cannot accept the story that an ICE agent was “fearing for his life.” We know who these people are and what they’re capable of, and it’s imperative to say it. Anything else is irresponsible and shameful. Anything else is picking the side of the oppressor.

Abolish ICE. Now and forever.

The Word For This Is 'Coup': www.discourseblog.com/p/the-word-f... @jackmirkinson.bsky.social @discourseblog.com
There is no ambiguity about any of this. Usually, American presidents—at least the ones of the past 80 or so years, when the “international rules-based order” meant you had to pretend a little more—like to hide behind a fig leaf of deniability when they engineer coups in other countries. Don’t look at us! It was the people and the people alone who decided to overthrow Bolivia’s Evo Morales in 2019; Honduran President Manuel Zelaya in 2009; Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004; Maduro’s predecessor Hugo Chávez in 2002; Argentina’s Isabel Perón in 1976; Chile’s Salvador Allende in 1973; Bolivia’s Juan José Torres in 1971; Brazil’s João Goulart in 1964; the Congo’s Patrice Lumumba in 1960; Guatemala’s Jacobo Arbenz in 1954; Iran’s Mohammad Mosaddegh in 1953; and many other people I’ve surely forgotten.
