Some quotes from Dvergatal (Catalogue of Dwarfs), which listed the names of dwarfs in Völuspá, a poem in Poetic Edda, although this part is now often set aside from newer editions. Tolkien adopted some names for Gandalf and the Dwarves in Thorin's company. #WyrdWednesday 🎨: The Brothers Hildebrandt

There was Mótsognir
the mightiest made
of all the dwarfs,
and Durin next;
many a likeness
of men they made,
the dwarfs in the earth,
as Durin said.

Nyi and Nithi
Northri and Suthri,
Austri and Vestri,
Althjof, Dvalinn,
Nar and Nain,
Niping, Dain,
Bifur, Bofur,
Bombur, Nori,
An and Onar,
Óin, Mjothvitnir.
Vigg and Gandalf,
Vindalf, Thrainn,
Thror and Thorin,
Thekk, Lit and Vit,
Nyr and Nyrath,
now have I told -
Regin and Rathsvith -
the list aright.

Fili, Kili,
Fundin, Nali,
Hepti, Vili,
Hannar, Sviur,
Billing, Bruni,
Bildr and Buri,
Frar, Hornbori,
Fræg and Loni,
Aurvang, Jari,
Eikinskjaldi.

Quotes from Dvergatal (Catalogue of dwarfs), in Vǫluspá, one of the poems of Poetic Edda.

A painting of Bilbo Baggins sitting in a fire-illuminated room in his house. He sits on a stool, his hand supporting his chin, as he listens to the Dwarves singing and playing musical instruments in front of him. Gandalf sits in front of Bilbo, smoking his pipe.

Found my favourite autumnal tree I've come across on my walks so far! 🍂 It's absolutely huge and golden – I'm certainly glad I looked up. It reminds me of mallorn trees in autumn! Also, the Quenya name for mellyrn, malinornë, is so beautiful. ♡ 🎨 Art by Ted Nasmith (Mallorn in the Shire).

Painting of a large yellow tree in a beautiful green landscape. Many hobbits are standing and playing in the green grass around the tree.

New video: I took my Pocket Guide to Middle-earth and turned it into a video! I know I struggle to sit and read through an entire guide sometimes, so I thought creating an audio/video format would make it easier for some folks. Link: youtu.be/fkW1e4LoqZA #lotr #lordoftherings
