Most of the talk about forgiveness and restoration is really about convenience. You don't want the hassle of kicking the sex pest out of your spaces, you don't want the Inconvenience of having to find a new video games youtuber to watch, so the onus is placed on people who have been hurt to forgive.

#QueerPrompts October 2: LGBTQ History Month: Queer historical reading recs I mostly read fantasy or contemporary (romance of course), so I don't know if these count as actual historical reading recs since half of them have magic, but they're MM/gay and take place in the past! 😁

Background is an old library with wooden arches and books. The text is "MM/Gay Historical Romances" and above and below the text are covers of the following books:

The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles

Legend of the White Snake by Sher Lee

A Gentleman's Gentleman by TJ Alexander

Together on Parade by Sarah Wallace & S.O. Callahan

A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Kindred Rivals by Jordan Lee and Spara Solace

Before We Disappear by Shaun David Hutchinson

Breeze Spells and Bridegrooms by Sarah Wallace & S.O. Callahan

The pope is correct here.

Pope Leo XIV
@Pontifex •

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Well, there's a lot of art and literature holding Hedera up as a model of feminity. Her history is obscure. Even in the present day, lay Hederites are likely to be kinda surprised to learn this.

000

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The faith as a whole isn't actively queerphobic, thanks to accounts of Hedera's life surviving as a trump card of sorts. But branches of the faith absolutely are, and the truth isn't that firmly established. If you killed the right few scholars, burned the right few books, give it a few decades...

101

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Hederite Faith retains some of the old fire, contrasting their reign as one of liberty compared to divine tyranny. But this is preached to mortals from Heaven's viewpoint. They're now the stewards of the mortal realm, and that comes with standards. How Things Should Be. Cultural oppression happens

100

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

It likes stability, it likes neat categories, it likes things to stay the same and a World That Makes Sense. So Hedera became The Prophet Hedera, her faith rose where the Old Gods fell, and the faith... simplifies. Scripture covers her personal journey, but omits discussion of gender. A compromise.

100

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The Divine Ministers also had little patience with the Old Gods. They saw them as disruptive, fickle and chaotic. They were all too happy to drive them back from the physical realm, working with a mortal to do just that... But Heaven is a system. It's laws, rules, regulations and the Great Machine.

100

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The complication is that Hedera's mission needed help. She had her disciples, and they were bold and loyal, but she was fighting the fundamental forces of the universe and she was just one alchemist with some magic and skill. Which is where Heaven enters the story, and Hederite faith begins

100

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Hedera preached that the gods couldn't truly understand humanity - they were grand and alien and more akin to forces of nature than something that watched over them. And she was largely right about that. The gods are mostly distant, and the Priest Kings used the idea of Fate for oppression.

100

Dichoro @dichoro.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

I'm gonna extemporize a bit - mostly to myself to put some thoughts in order. Hedera framed her battle against the Old Gods as a matter of free will. The Priest Kings claimed the world was absolutely preordained, Fate could not be challenged, everyone should Know Your Place.

#QueerPrompts Fantasy world, so I got to make up some queer history! The Prophet Hedera, Rose of Liberty and national founder, was a trans woman. This is known within scholarly Church circles, but the laity don't get it and revisionist histories ciswash her. (Or claim angelic gender affirmation)

I think coupling the two opt outs is... interesting. I'd oppose joining the Euro (the 2008 crash is a great illustration of the flaws of the shared currency) but don't have an issue with the Schengen. Wonder if the drop off is thinking like that, or if it's more general reticence.

Various characters from Susan Taxpayer taken from Punkitt's artwork

Franky Cowurker is giving a big thumbs up, Susan is jumping away from Janet who wants to grab at her, Ann Turn is looking at them in awe while the Schrudler looks up at her with a grimace. Mashawn does not look impressed.

There's a picture of Punkitt's sona Bweenop doing a thumbs up, with words under that say "ft. punkitt / the lady what made the game"

There is also art by babyjeff of Miss JukeBox 8 doing a peace sign

With incessant posting by Bluesky user Kara Buchanan, it's pretty difficult to still claim total ignorance on this one. Perhaps there is a deeper reason why people say they haven't heard the song "Sick Idols" by Melon Batake a Go Go and feel the need to make it known: cultural cachet.

Trying to give the game a bit of due glaze - it's not afraid to take swings with its story, and I love every one. The cast's solid, exploring the world map and dungeons is a great time, the story missions do a great job with map variety. (Just done my first paralogue, and it was... a time ^^)
