@phaueis.eurosky.social and @davidcolaco.bsky.social convincingly argue for metabolic considerations in neuroscience modeling. I had the privilege of writing a commentary. The point I add here is that this metabolic lens must be applied to the cognitive system as a whole, not just the neural scale.

But not impossible; there's EEG work from van der Meer/van der Weel, for example, and plenty of ideas about what to look for in brains (resonance to information, vs encoding of affordances). And some of that work already explicitly connects the dynamical behavioural analyses to the neural scale

Last word: History of science exists. Philosophy of science exists. Science and technology studies exist. There is no excuse for writing about science in complete and utter oblivion about vast scholarship that has produced a lot of knowledge and understanding about what science is and how it works.

Thanks! The cue concept is rejected in the ecological theoretical framework. For learning from an ecological perspective (discovering new affordances), look up concepts like attunement, education of attention, calibration. Sensorimotor contingencies would provide a different but related angle.
