Oakwood Village Sam's Club? (You're from NEO right?) If so that is not the zone I would expect protests in, but probably a good midterm sign for the Dems if people in Ohio exurbs are angry enough to spontaneously protest.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

3/ The rapid growth of private schools is happening nationwide. We analyzed data from 13 states and found at least 1,500 more private schools than there were 5 years ago. In several states, all or nearly all students pay tuition with taxpayer dollars: propub.li/4w9rOol
Line chart showing the percentage increase in the number of private schools (on the y-axis) from 2022 to 2026. Arkansas and Utah show a dramatic climb from their 2022 baselines, climbing to nearly 120% and just over 100% respectively, while other highlighted states like Iowa, Florida, North Carolina and West Virginia show growth below 30%.

I'm not saying be willfully ignorant. I'm not saying pretend horrible things aren't happening. I'm saying don't destroy your mental health going in-depth and cycling through horror after horror on your phone. I'm saying there is no virtue in making yourself experience other people's traumas because mere awareness is not activism. you inflicting suffering on yourself is not activism.
doomscrolling is literally sapping your energy and focus away from doing anything useful to help other people. you can burn yourself out without ever lifting a finger by exposing yourself to all the bad news in the world and who does that help? no one.

The em dash is part of the NYT style guide and has long been commonly used in the paper (and others). I have a close family member who has the MacOS keyboard shortcut for the em dash memorized. The reason AI uses the em dash so much is because it was trained on text written by humans that used it.

I don't think you have to find it helpful as a tool to your specific workflow but I think it's undeliable that it's a tool that has value for the lot of other software engineers And very little value outside of software engineering and a couple other relatively specific tasks

While I don't buy a lot of the hype I do think AI tools can definitely save software engineers time and I think it's here for the long run as a part of a modern software development workflow based on my observations in industry and data from how well it performs common coding tasks

Ultimately you still need to do the hardest parts of coding; have a mental model of how the code will execute and interact and be able to read, debug and maintain code All of which are valuable skills But AI can be helpful to clean up syntax or throw a basic script together from a description

I don't understand why people are mad - they tell you how long the "flight" takes - if the bus takes that amount of time does it matter if you're in the air or on the ground? And for short flights were you spend a large part of the flight taxiing or waiting around anyways it makes sense to bus IMO
