Every time you learn more about how to tweak noise gates it's like black magic shit. Getting it dialed in just right so it kills your breaths and clicks but leaves the softer and lower volume trail offs in your speech... it's like, cutting the total workload on a podcast down to a fraction.

It's crazy how well the movie handles this. It really sets you the viewer up to start looking at everything in the frame and everything that happens from Piper's perspective. The pool in the backyard. Laura bumping her hip on the extruding countertop. The bead curtain into the bedroom.

Anyway, it's just a movie I can tell had so much thought into it, and not just on this front. It is a richly dripping text polished to an absolute shine and I now absolutely have to go see these directors' first movie, Talk To Me. These fuckers are real artists in a way that tickles my brainmeats.

It's one pair of early contrasting moments that just communicates... so much. Even the color and design choices of the two houses show how the details of her old home don't need as close attention as this unfamiliar, intimidating even if inviting location. And the whole movie is like this.

The camera focuses close in on her hand sliding along a wall of many changing textures and details, while everything ahead of her is out of focus, just blurry shapes and light, similar to how she describes seeing.

Okay, so, Bring Her Back: personal shit aside, wanna focus on how much I liked the film's portrayal of disability through Piper, a teenage girl with partial blindness who is played by a young actress with partial blindness. It's just portrayed so compassionate but not, like, patronizingly.

Harry Potter is very tropey. If the "re-experiencing a school setting but with special powers" thing is what does it for you, that's everywhere. The story of a chosen child, the types of characters and relationships, a magic/power system with some semblance of rules and structure, everywhere.

You do not have an option for a cruelty-free smartphone. Amazon, like Walmart, is near impossible to afford NOT to interface with. Starbucks is easiest to separate from, but they suck for the reasons most workplaces and most of the coffee trade sucks. And in all cases, they employ tens of thousands.
