We git push —force-with-lease’d these tiny feet into the GitLab socks. Actual deployment is still a few sprints ahead, but staging looks very promising.

Guys, guys!!! I think I have figured out a solution. I call it "German AC"!
Illustration of Maxwell's demon from Wikipedia
By User:Htkym - Own work, CC BY 2.5, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=1625737

Labels have been added: Maxwell's demon is German AC, one gas chamber is inside, the other one outside.
The second panel says: The German AC only lets fast (= hot) molecules pass outside, thus lowering room temperature without creating surplus heat.

Maxwell's demon is a thought experiment to ostensibly disprove the second law of thermo dynamics. From wikipedia:
In the thought experiment, a demon controls a door between two chambers containing gas. As individual gas molecules (or atoms) approach the door, the demon quickly opens and closes the door to allow only fast-moving molecules to pass through in one direction, and only slow-moving molecules to pass through in the other. Because the kinetic temperature of a gas depends on the velocities of its constituent molecules, the demon's actions cause one chamber to warm up and the other to cool down. This would decrease the total entropy of the system, seemingly without applying any work, thereby violating the second law of thermodynamics.

I apparently missed the release of the 42 episode on siblings for which I was interviewed, in case you missed it as well: You can now watch me sort apples, oranges and pears on television.

Apparently there is a survey showing that a substantial number of US Americans mistakenly believe that Noah of Noah's Ark was married to Joan of Arc. What those who are gloating are missing is that this version of history would be quite sick.

Using IaC we have automated the entire loneliness lifecycle and are able to provide loneliness at scale by rapidly deploying one ec2 instance per user that is in its own VPC with no external communication, subscriptions start at 49.99€

I started reading up on the whole "loneliness pandemic" narrative because this seems like a literature where the age-period-cohort problem may be relevant (or maybe it isn't?). Here's data from Australia (HILDA), average agreement with the statement "I often feel very lonely" (SD of ca. 1.8).>

NEW article by me! We can now visualize pathogens down to atoms; design vaccines in weeks; manufacture them in microbial factories; engineer them more precise than ever before. We're living through a golden age of vaccine development, but only if we continue to invest in them.

Haidt is "stunned" that ChatGPT asked how it would threaten youth reveals that its plan would be what Haidt has argued in his books. The secret plan! There should be some way to rescind the doctorate of any commentator on digital media who interprets ChatGPT output like this. I am not joking.

Imagine you lived in the 18th century. Smallpox kills 1 in 3 cases. Yet you can’t culture pathogens, don’t know germ theory, and have no idea what a virus is. How would you invent a vaccine? In a new episode of HARD DRUGS, we trace the history of vaccines!

Can large language models stand in for human participants? Many social scientists seem to think so, and are already using "silicon samples" in research. One problem: depending on the analytic decisions made, you can basically get these samples to show any effect you want. THREAD 🧵
