One of the "welcome to the Board" traditional conversations is when a new member says "don't they understand they're eating the seed corn?" and then senior staff or leadership decides who gets to explain "they don't care" this year.

This is not just an AI problem but a general tech/private equity management vibe problem we began to encounter when those guys moved into Hollywood due to either money or streaming dominance. Small top-heavy staffs who don't go to set don't make future show runners.

Sport is inherently a communal activity, though - if there's no shared enjoyment, it's just a technical exercise. Ergo, if the community of something is so hostile, then I think the *sport* part of it is lost

Most of the grumbling (eg my mother) focuses on snow clearing problems, because the city (supposedly) can't coordinate alternate street parking on full plow days

Conservative government of Alberta is preempting Edmonton, requiring the city to: —Reverse the city's 2024 change allowing small-scale apartment buildings to be built citywide. Change resulted in a building boom: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... —Restore parking requirements, which city eliminated in 2020

More fodder for my pet solution: any city or metro area which has a population greater than or equal to Prince Edward Island may become a province by vote of simple majority of its residents

Yeah that's pretty much what I got from the EG2 specs - kinda weird to me they didn't do whatever the Harrier team at MS did with the same base

Speaking of Qwen finetunes, have you looked at Jina v5 omni? Frozen Qwen language backbone, plus the image and audio encoders, so text-only keeps the 0.6B perf but puts images and audio in the same embedding space
010
Raymond Neilson @delta-vee.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Yep, and there's apparently a version finetuning Qwen3.8-27B recently too (total overkill for embeddings but yanno)

Harrier's smaller model is a finetune of EmbeddingGemma 300M, fwiw

He's leaving himself quite vulnerable on his left flank for giving into AB's pipeline demands (though some overlap with strategic options WRT export partners), and he can't actually articulate a strategy which might mollify the left because he has to keep up the kayfabe

Carney's been *very* carefully offering AB things he suspects won't actually happen when all the numbers get run, and been *extremely* careful not to cast aspersions on the good faith of Danielle Smith, even though he probably *should* be casting some fucking aspersions

It won't be taken that way in Alberta if it's led by a bunch of (what Albertans typically see as) the out of touch eastern elites so quick to dismiss AB's concerns No, it's not accurate, but it's how it'll be taken

It's not easy to uproot your life, especially if you're pushed far enough out. I've moved across the country a couple times now, it's never been easy, and it's the one place I have a smidgen of sympathy for "I didn't change, everything else did"

In all seriousness though, the *one* place I'll listen to arguments for things like the CAP is as a shock absorber - not a permanent discount, but something to slow down sudden changes in the market. Housing is fairly unique in often having tremendous human costs come with reacting to market changes

Raymond Neilson @delta-vee.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I think it can help as a delaying mechanism, because sometimes supply shocks can hit faster than supply can increase. The relevant comparison is more like EI, IMO

I think this is mostly people who are convinced the entire rental market is falsely inflated because it's controlled by three companies, and the "natural" rent is a fraction of current rates

The elephant in the room
Alberta separatists have gone to D.C. offering fresh water and oil in exchange for American support – and Republican operatives have provided tactical assistance inside the province

Biggest split in Canadian politics right now is “we are actually under attack by a faction of Americans who want to destroy our country, and we need to take extraordinary measures to prevent that” (basically the Carney gov’t and a couple premiers) vs “lol situation normal” (literally everyone else).

who is ready for the Red Deer People's Republic post-referendum
A Globe and Mail investigation has found that Republican political operatives were on the ground in Alberta this year to assist the separatist campaign in its bid to leave Canada, while harbouring their own aspirations for the province to secede.

The Globe also found that when Alberta separatist leaders went to Washington to meet with the U.S. State Department, they offered up key assets from the province’s resource portfolio, including access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil, in exchange for help transitioning to independence.

Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta’s pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.
