David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 11hI'm not sure if I'm not being clear, or you're being intentionally obtuse as part of your ongoing contempt for all parties that aren't Alliance. If National says "We won't form a coalition with TOP", voters should be able to vote for TOP safely knowing it isn't a vote for a National coalition. 100
David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 11hYou're putting words in my mouth. In another post you said "Where do you think disenfranchised Labour/Green’s voters should go? Anywhere?". TOP is neither Labour or Greens. But that's not the point I was making in this thread. 100

David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 11hI'm talking about the media educating voters to these alternatives. While both our major parties are informed by their neo-liberal ideology, they are also informed by what the majority of voters want. We can't do much about the former, but education will help shift what the latter is calling for. 000
David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 12hLuxon then reneges, and forms a coalition government with TOP included in the mix (which current polling indicates is probably National's only path to power). This voter will rightly be pissed off. If a party states they will not work with another, this should be binding. 000
David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 12hYou're missing my point. This should hopefully clarify and answer another question you posed. A voter is disenfranchised with Labour/Greens, but the thought of another 3 years of a National led coalition horrifies them. They look at TOP and think "A different voice. Just what I want". 200

David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 17hIn a local context that metaphor doesn't land as strongly. I've pretty much made up my mind. But I can understand traditional Labour voters being on the fence on whether Chippy and co have done enough to earn their vote, or whether they should look further to the left. 120
David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 17hIt's either a real mask off moment, or a show of her complete political naivety. Neither of which make TOP a safe place for your vote if you're a disenfranchised Labour or National voter. 4182

David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 17hThat's well and good, but also kinda reinforces my point. Most voters don't read Substack, and they certainly don't hang out on Bsky. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 17hYep. It doesn't have to be this way. I harp on about this because most voters aren't very politically engaged. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 18hIt's so maddingly obvious. And yet we have the very real chance of re-electing this Coalition of Cuts to double down on their austerity. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 18hIt's great we're seeing more stories highlighting how shit the CoC have been, and how they've lied about <waves hands>. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Even if TOP did, the same thing would apply. I have no faith they wouldn't renege on that. But they'd never rule National out. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Yes. But there needs to be. Voters need to be able to make informed decisions based on what our politicians state. So when a party's leader says "We will not work with TOP", this needs to be legally binding. 120
David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 14/10/2026So what are the consequences when Luxon forms a coalition with TOP? Because he absolutely will, if that's National's only path to power. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 14/10/2026It shouldn't. But I'd definitely not bet against it. Especially with polls starting to paint the picture that TOP will be calling the shots. David Clegg @delphijunkie.bsky.social · 14/10/2026At this point I'm more suspicious they'll never go with the left wing.
