I can't speak for others, but that's my haikai history 😅 I began ignorant of #senryu. I had no intention of writing it, therefore I made no attempt to learn it (shame!). For a long time, I couldn't distinguish between a #haiku or a senryu masquerading as one. Some journals didn't try either . . . .

As a writer, I personally enjoy the character limit on here because it has taught me a lot about boiling down ideas & how many extraneous words you can cut & synonyms you can use. Playing, experimenting with language is endlessly fun, even when challenging. Maybe don't turn that over to a machine...

I prefer take 1. How to explain . . . the very relatable, everyday experience coming before "yearning" doesn't seem jarring at all. Whereas "longing" almost feels too grand at the top, making that same relatable experience of the light feel like it falls short of the word. Does that make any sense?
