Ahhh I love this review of A Waltz of Sinister Import from the wonderful @kehealey.bsky.social (in her latest newsletter - have you subscribed to it yet?): www.thathealeygirl.com/pearls-frock... #romancelandia
A Waltz of Sinister Import, by Stephanie Burgis. The final novella in Lady and Lord Riven's adventures through Europe, where Lady Riven's desire to research supernatural beings and her vampire husband's desire to chill out and admire his clever wife have been interrupted by their royal monarch, the King of England, who desires them to figure out what the hell is happening at a top-tier diplomatic event where everyone keeps losing time in a magical waltz. Worst of all, Margaret, Lady Riven, is going to have to--ugh--socialise. Stephanie writes really wonderful fantasy comedies of manners, and this is no exception. Also, there was one reference to a historical character where I immediately messaged Stephanie, "OF COURSE SHE DID". No further context.

they should have to pay you double when it's this nice out. and they should pay you time and a half when it's super gross out. Actually pay should be indexed to weather on a sort of parabola, with the lowest payrate indexed to days that are just bleh enough that it's kinda nice to be at work

⁉️ Two questions the Snap! columns try to answer: does the work of criticism elucidate the fiction? Does the fiction validate the criticism? Well: "The Mulai is everything Palmer and Walton claim for texts of its kind, but in so being rides a coach and horses through all their conceptions of it." 🤷‍♂️

I hope publications using AI checkers disclose it in their submissions info. I personally will not sub anywhere that will feed my work into 3rd party AI software because I don’t want my IP ingested at all. I’d rather never publish a standalone story again. This shit gives me writers block.

Jenna is furious when she sees Tracy has the same animatronic bird in his office that a local store refused to sell to her. Turns out the clerk had told him it wasn't for sale, which Tracy thought meant he could take it for free. Jack has Kenneth sneak the bird back to avoid a scene.

We don't need more explanation. What we need is organizations that stand up for the rights and livelihoods of the creatives they are supposed to represent and protect. There is no ethical use of AI in creative spaces & the only acceptable stance from you is "No AI in publishing".

I thought I had at least passing familiarity with conspiracy theories until the man sitting next to me at the Lebanon, OH Skyline told me “space ain’t real.” “What do you think is between us and the moon?” an employee asked. The man seemed to think about this for a moment. “The moon…is with us.”

She poses in front of a neutral background with her face in three-quarters view. She looks directly into the camera with large, clear brown eyes and an expression that suggests forgiveness is not forthcoming.Close-up of Hailey Piper, a fair-skinned woman with ash-blonde hair worn in a tumble of shoulder-length curls.
