It’s common to say the joy of finding a fossil is being the first person to see something, but I’ve never felt that way. It’s connection. They were here. Right here, where I am. Across millions of years, owing a lot to chance, we came into contact because we’ve shared the same planet. I love it.

I know it is inaccurate, but the furry Andrewsarchus is one of my favorite designs in Cenozoic mammal documentaries. Made it more obscure to hear then the first time that this is a hoofed mammal rather than an oversized wolf

9 December 1833: In Lyme Regis Elizabeth Philpot writes to Mary Buckland in Oxford to tell her that Mary Anning was almost killed by a cart on the narrow bridge over the River Lym as she was heading for the beach before dawn. This was one of at least 6 occasions when Mary narrowly escaped death.
Portrait of Mary Anning wearing a green cloak and straw bonnet, holding a hammer and with a basket over her arm.Extract of a letter from Elizabeth Philpot to Mary Buckland about Mary Anning: 'yesterday she had one of her miraculous escapes in going to the beach before sunrise and was nearly killed on passing over the bridge by the wheel of a cart which threw her down and crushed her against the wall, fortunately the cart was stopped in time to allow of her being extricated from her most perilous situation and happily she is not prevented pursuing her daily employment.'Early 20th century postcard showing the bridge (circled) where Mary Anning had her accident on 8 December 1833. The Fossil Depot to the right of the bridge had nothing to do with Mary Anning and was demolished with other buildings on that side of the bridge to widen the road in 1913.

I will just say: if the otter sequence ended with a homo erectus watching the otters while holding a spear and a burning stick with sth like “but even otters can be dethroned” in the narration, that would have been an insane cameo and it would have been much accurate to what happened at this time

Yes, there was a deliberate push to get rid of all scientific names; of course, I think this is a massive mistake. And, indeed, no roaring for sabretooths, their hyoid anatomy indicates that they couldn't do it :) #PrehistoricPlanetIceAge

Observations on #PrehistoricPlanetIceAge: wonderful, of course. But a strange reluctance in narration to a) state where in the world a scene takes place and b) use genus names. Odd, since no such reluctance in the Mesozoic series.

These are small nitpicks, but I hope that if we get a follow up, it will also just make the episodes a bit longer and touch more on the “unknown” diversity. But again, small complains against an amazing piece of media and scientific communication!

4.) The science segments felt that they were in a different meta layer because they explored well what the climate context and science is, but not what I saw with the animals. Why not showing the cave complexes, why not listing how far we got with aDNA?
