Can't stop thinking about this kid, man. Five years old, watched his dad get shot in the neck and taken away. Now no one knows where his dad is, what sort of condition he's in, any of it. All across the country, every day, we are destroying children's lives.

The story behind the Manchester bee – and why it’s used everywhere in the city
By Anne Beswick There are bees all over Manchester, swarms of those sweetest and busiest of insects are everywhere. Even in the depths of winter they are here, on every bollard and bench, on buildings...

Next Thursday night I’ll be in discussion at the Belfast Exposed gallery with poet & ex-journalist Angela Graham. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has described her latest collection, inspired by the horrors of the Ukraine War, as “exceptional”. Free🎟️below:

Zuishinin Monzeki, Yamashina Ward, Kyoto, Japan
A vibrant songbird perches upon a delicate, bare branch, framed by a breathtaking cascade of fiery scarlet and burning amber Japanese maple leaves (momiji). The dense crimson foliage forms a glowing, layered backdrop, transitioning seamlessly from intense vermilion at the top to variegated shades of orange and gold near the base. The photograph evokes an immersive autumn sensory atmosphere: the crisp, invigorating chill of a late November afternoon, the subtle rustle of falling leaves drifting across temple moss (chiru momiji), the gentle chirping of wild birds echoing through quiet groves, and the grounding aroma of damp earth and aged cedar in a secluded sanctuary.
Zuishin-in Temple, located in Yamashina Ward on the eastern edge of Kyoto, is an imperial-head (monzeki) temple of the Shingon sect of Esoteric Buddhism, established in 991 AD by the high priest Ninkai. The temple precincts are historically renowned for their deep association with Ono no Komachi, the celebrated Heian-period waka poetess and legendary beauty, who is said to have spent her later years in quiet seclusion here. Komachi's legacy endures across the grounds through historic sites like her fumi-zuka (letter burial mound) and Komachi-no-i (water well). In late autumn, the temple gardens become a tranquil haven for momijigari (autumn leaf viewing), where traditional landscape gardening showcases the heritage craft of Japanese horticulture (monozukuri), carefully framing natural trees against sacred temple architecture.

I do wonder when I read these statements by British politicians about Northern Ireland and veterans, are there two classes of British subject? Is a soldier entitled to different and better representation than a civilian? It wouldn’t stand anywhere else.

More confirmation that Northern Ireland should not be governed by a British Secretary of State; once again the issue of veterans is used to conceal the allied actions of other arms of the state, except where that state has already confirmed its own innocence. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Seen from the viewpoint of politics, truth has a despotic character. It is therefore hated by tyrants, who rightly fear the competition of a coercive force they cannot monopolize Hannah Arendt
