HAPPY 36TH BIRTHDAY TO HUBBLE!!! THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING TO GIVE US ICONIC IMAGES LIKE THESE!! 🌌
Three massive pillars of gas and dust extend upward through the image, in descending order of height from left to right. They are mostly opaque and dark brown, against a background of blue, green, and gold dust and gas. A few scattered pinkish stars are visible throughout. The Crab Nebula's complex oval structure lies against a black background. On the nebula’s exterior, particularly at the top left and bottom left, lie curtains of glowing red and orange fluffy material. Interior to this outer shell lie large-scale loops of mottled filaments of yellow-white and green, studded with clumps and knots. The central interior of the nebula glows brightly. Around and within the supernova remnant are many points of blue-white light.
A vast nebula glows in hues of blue, green, orange, yellow, and more. Near center, the nebula's structure resembles a jagged mountaintop. Several stars are scattered throughout.Resembling a pair of butterfly wings, two lobes of a nebula stretch out from a central point, reaching to the upper right and lower left of the image. The lobes glow in pink, white, red, and orange hues, against a black background of space dotted with stars.

space hearts 💗🌌
Together, two merging galaxies form a bean-like shape just below the center of this image. The cores of the galaxies are colored blue, and one is above and to the left of the other. These two cores are surrounded by bright tendrils of coral star-forming regions, which stretch above and below. To the right of the top galactic core is a particularly bright star-formation clump with faint diffraction spikes. The lower galaxy is a mostly regular spiral shape, while the upper galaxy has been distorted into a much more condensed bun. There is also a semi-transparent arc of pale dust above both merging galaxies. The background is black, and many tiny distant galaxies dot the scene. Two large galaxies (NGC 4038 and NGC 4039) appear to be colliding in the center of this image. Their collision looks like a sideways heart. The Gemini North telescope captured a pair of galaxies, NGC 4567 (top) and NGC 4568 (bottom), as they collide. Nicknamed the Butterfly galaxies, they will eventually merge as a single galaxy in 500 million years.
Caption credit: CNNPluto in a nearly full-disc view against the darkness of space. The planet has flat plains, mountainous regions, and craters in colors of muted tan and brown. One lighter, flatter region is roughly shaped like a heart symbol.
