My OUP blog post on ‘How to turn your PhD thesis into a monograph’ received some very kind positive feedback so I’d like to share OUP’s new Early Career Researcher Hub, where you can find a link to the post plus other publishing tips and resources: t.co/dKiSIQYkLJ

To accompany all those Bluesky science/academia #starterpacks, let's share introductions to the literature of our different fields. Below, I humbly submit 12 main types of scientific papers on food, agriculture, land, & natural climate solutions (inspired by the amazing @xkcd.com). #FoodStudies 🧪
Grid of 12 fake journal articles with the title "Types of scientific paper on food, land, and natural climate solutions"

The papers have the following titles:

1. We're more doomed than you thought
2. We're more doomed than you thought, but theoretically we could still be OK if everything works out perfectly
3. Here is a solution that fixes everything if implemented everywhere by everyone forever
4. My sector isn't part of the problem (funded by sector)
5. Here are some highly technical results, good luck understanding them
6. Counting up carbon in trees, plants, and soils
7. Technology is good
8. Technology is bad
9. Great result in a specific place and context! But headlines will make it seem applicable everywhere
10. People are counting stuff wrong, here is a more right but more complicated solution
11. Let's put more nature on farms
12. Let's put less farms in nature

Many people ask how STEM teaching can possibly be 'decolonised/diversified' - surely it's just science. Here is a short thread with examples. Firstly, it is NOT about removing science from the curriculum, it is about giving students wider context (see: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...)
