I was super disappointed that it didn’t begin with the scene at Mount Olympus. I read somewhere else that Nolan intentionally left these things out so that the viewer questioned the existence of the gods. There were other supernatural beings though. I missed the gods

I’m with you on this. I’m not a Nolan devotee, and I think I would have been less disappointed had known his works better. I just thought, oh high visibility storyteller director and top notch actors so it’ll slay. The Circe scene slayed. His take on Troy was stunning.

This is an excellent reflection on representation in film. I’ve been complaining about this to my students for weeks while I teach The Odyssey, especially when I look for images to represent the different events. I do appreciate the “global” representation, but it’s literally a regional myth.

I agree, but as a high school teacher in a high-needs district, the additional training, resources, and support are required to do this effectively are nonexistent. Many students don’t have the personal vocabulary and academic stamina to weed through AI garbage to get what they need.
