Are they both problems? Yes. Should both be addressed? Yes. Do we have to pick one and ignore the other? No. Environmental concerns are valid. It's not the only argument. And yeah, some doomers are taking it way too far, especially the "AI is gonna kill us" stuff.

Hmm. I've seen a lot of people talk about the water usage, but I haven't seen anyone imply that it's the worst offender. I have, however, seen pro-AI folks claiming that they've seen it a lot. With that said, I don't like the whataboutism where people compare data centers to almond farms, for ex.

I mostly agree with your statement. My gripe right now is that several new data centers have been built recently, and I'd be hard pressed to believe we need more anytime soon (without AI usage), so I'd prefer to see a stringent approval process w/ plans on how to address water/power usage.

I would happily give up bluesky if it meant getting rid of AI. As for other usages, we have had programming for literal decades, and it's been capable of a lot -- enough to do what is needed without resorting to models that teach themselves and make everyone walking idiots.

My doctor wears an apple watch, so this makes me leery that apple might get access to medical info without consent. Phones can and do record, but mine is off at doctor's appointments unless needed. Not a fan.

Having severe anxiety symptoms when you're totally chill mentally is really freaking annoying. My body is acting like it's in a fight for its life, but I'm just sitting here with my cat doing nothing. I wish I could make sense of this. Doctors are baffled.
