Title: CEOs are being left baffled at the high cost of moving to AI — shockingly enough, sacking human workers isn't resulting in huge savings
[News] By Mike Moore | Published 14 hours ago
Subtitle: Replacing human workers with AI isn't a panacea after all
Banner image: In the right half of the image, a man with grey hair wearing glasses dressed in a blue dress shirt sits at a desk with a laptop and a red coffee cup. He is staring into the distance with his hands covering his chin, left fist covered by his right palm. The left half of the image is the cover of a book titled "I fucking warned you dude. I told you bro — A Critical Analysis of Capitalist Production" by Karl Marx, translated from the third German edition, by Samuel Moore and Edward Aveling and edited by Frederick Engels, Vol I.

MSFT relying on uninitialized memory to encode the default value, probably. This type of thing bit me in the ass recently working on protobufs. We had no choice but to encode empty variant as `1` rather than `0` for compatibility reasons, and the initializer wasn't assigning anything for that case.

Listening to infosec people freak out over Mythos is so tiring. Like, bro, your local water treatment plant runs Windows XP, your mobile provider's hardware is older than you are, and the protocol that routes internet traffic is secured by everyone just agreeing that hijacking it would be uncool.

customs officer opens the book, looks drearily at the person in front of them wearing jeans and leaning to one side, groans and mumbles something under his breath before stamping the completely empty page and handing it back to the clueless traveler. "Be sure to show off your passport at the pub."

20. Force people to incorporate the good religions into finance and politics or they're not open minded 21. Our religions are the good religions, we made technology so our religions get the credit 22. Letting democracy control a country is bad, a minority of technocratic elites should control you

17. Technology should be used to experimentally police citizens in this era of record-low violent crime 18. You should embrace a private and shadowy government of people you would hate if you knew 19. We want to say horrible things and suppress your right to judge and punish that

13. Forget that most of the elites come from rich families 14. Ignore recent wars and give the US credit for the lack of world wars 15. Make our allies adopt war-requiring economies as well 16. Ignore billionaires' political and market manipulation and trust they have good intent

7. It's okay to make AI murder tech for the army 8. Pay workers less, but let politicians get rich 9. Let us be bigots and also silence critics of it 10. Voting for respected likeable leaders is bad 11. Always be looking for the next war 12. Develop AI recklessly or you will all die

3. Instead of providing services for pay, we will control your pay, and monitor all you do 4. We will control you with technology instead of persuade you with discourse 5. Fear should drive us to create technology without ethics 6. Your children should be forced to work for the state

Plagiarizing this to amplify the message... Hey everyone it's me, your old pal from Palantir! I have a manifesto that everyone can agree on! 1. Technology should be invented and used to kill foreigners more 2. Tracking your phone is limiting, please consider a wrongthink-detecting AI brain implant

People think Sagat from Street Fighter is saying "tiger" for every special move, but this is a common misconception due to the low-fidelity audio. He's actually promoting the latest in high-speed Internet technologies while also emphasizing the importance of staying regular with proper diet.

I'm on a few Firefox install and finding the built in vertical tabs feature comfortable to use. I'm not sure it would support my previous workflow of having in the three digits worth of tabs from several months ago with deep nesting, but for now it gets the job done.

This isn't a good article. The way it's written is ambiguous and would easily read to a "business owner" type as "well it's good for business" as opposed to "this only benefits the wealthiest businesses". I think the words "closely held" are doing all the work to carry that meaning and it gets lost.

Oh cool, so we're just referring to human trafficking as deportation broadly, and saying how great it would be if we just kidnapped and exiled the "right people". I don't think this is a good direction for the discourse.
