When Golden Girls was being developed, Betty was supposed to be Blanche and Rue was supposed to be Rose, based on characters they had each played previously. Bea Arthur wasn't interested in the show at first, but one of the things that changed her mind was when Rue and Betty switched.

I usually don't like the term "virtue signalling", but that's exactly what the Twitter exodus was. A performative action that caused confusion and chaos, and had zero actual tangible demonstrable benefits. But a lot of folks got to feel smug and superior, so mission accomplished, I guess.
