On Oct. 4, 1957, the Avro Arrow was unveiled with the intention of it being the RCAF's primary interceptor in the 1960s. Less than two years later, the program was abruptly cancelled and 14,528 Avro employees were put out of work. This is the story. 📸 LAC 🧵 1/12

On this day in 1988, Lennox Lewis won gold for Canada at the Summer Olympics when he defeated Riddick Bowe. He became the first Canadian to win gold in boxing in 56 years. He was Canada's flag bearer for the closing ceremonies of the Games. 📸 Bob Martin

Bio of the Day: Horace Bélanger (1836–92), fur trader and JP. In 1867 he moved to Cumberland House (Sask.), and in 1870, still a clerk, he took charge of the entire Cumberland district. Two years later he was promoted chief trader and in 1873 he was made factor. www.biographi.ca/en/bio/belan...

Regina has never had an NHL team, but the Chicago Black Hawks were formed from the nucleus of players that made up the Regina Capitals. Eddie Shore once played for them and they even challenged for the Stanley Cup. This is their story. 📸 NHL 🧵 1/8
