80 years ago, in his last game for the Montreal Royals, Jackie Robinson helped his club to a 2-0 win over Louisville Colonels at Delorimier Stadium to secure the Royals’ first Junior World Series title. Read the beautiful story about the love Montrealers expressed to Robinson after the game below:

57 years ago today, Ron Taylor (Toronto, Ont.) recorded a save for the Mets in the first NLCS game ever played. He pitched the final two innings in the Mets’ 9-5 win over the Atlanta Braves. Prior to 1969, the top teams from the AL and NL went straight to the World Series.

19 years ago today, Colorado Rockies left-hander Jeff Francis (North Delta, B.C.) became the first Canadian to register a win in an MLB postseason game since 1900. He started and allowed just two runs in six innings to the Phillies in the Rockies' 4-2 win in Game 1 of the NLDS.

51 years ago today, despite the fact that the AL had implemented the DH rule, Rangers righty Fergie Jenkins (Chatham, Ont.) hit for himself. He went 1-for-2 with a run against the Minnesota Twins. On the mound, he allowed just one run in seven innings to pick up his 25th win of the season.

Former Montreal Expos infielder Maury Wills would've turned 94 today. He passed away in 2022. On April 8, 1969, he became the first player to walk to the plate for the Expos in a regular season game.

33 years ago today, Carlos Delgado made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays. He replaced Randy Knorr at catcher in the sixth inning. He walked in his first at bat in the Blue Jays’ 7-2 loss to the Orioles. It was one of just two catching appearances he'd make during his MLB career.

38 years ago, for the second straight start, Toronto Blue Jays ace Dave Stieb lost a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth. This time Orioles pinch-hitter Jim Traber blooped a single just over first baseman Fred McGriff's head. Stieb settled for his second straight one-hitter in the Jays' 4-0 win

90 years ago today, George Selkirk (Huntsville, Ont.) stepped to the plate for the New York Yankees and homered in his first World Series at bat against New York Giants lefty Carl Hubbell. Selkirk remains the only Canadian to homer in their first World Series at bat.

22 years ago today, the Montreal Expos played their final home game at Olympic Stadium. The Expos lost 9-1 to the Marlins in front of 31,395 fans. Tony Batista scored the final run for the Expos in the fourth inning when he doubled and then scored on a single by Juan Rivera.

Q: Who is the only Canadian pitcher to register an MLB win for both the Expos and Blue Jays? A: Shawn Hill (Georgetown, Ont.) He notched his win with the Blue Jays 14 years ago today when he tossed three scoreless innings against the Yankees in a Jays' 3-2 victory at Rogers Centre.

55 years ago today, Montreal Expos second baseman Ron Hunt was hit by a pitch by Chicago Cubs right-hander Milt Pappas in the second inning. It was the 50th time Hunt was hit by a pitch in the 1971 season. That remains the record for most HBPs in a season since 1900.

Harry Simmons was born on this date in 1903. This Montreal area resident and longtime baseball executive had an extensive knowledge of baseball rules. Another of his areas of expertise was schedule-making. He was enlisted to create MLB schedules before the age of computers. 1/2

Former Blue Jays lefty Steve Davis died five years ago today at the age of 61. In 1985, Davis won 17 games for double-A Knoxville, 3 for triple-A Syracuse and 2 with the Jays for a total of 22 wins. With this, he became the first 20-game winner in the organization's history

I've never witnessed an MLB no-hitter in person and I can thank Bobby Higginson for that. 28 years ago today, Roy Halladay had a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth inning at SkyDome when Higginson hit a HR. Halladay settled for a one-hitter in a 2-1 win over the Tigers.

34 years ago today, Montreal Expos catcher Gary Carter doubled in his final MLB at bat. The ball just eluded the reach of Chicago Cubs right fielder and ex-Carter teammate Andre Dawson. Carter received a prolonged standing ovation at Olympic Stadium.

43 years ago today, Tim Raines went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and four RBIs to lead the Expos to a 10-4 win over the Cardinals. With this, Raines became the first MLBer since Ty Cobb in 1915 to steal 70 bases and register 70 RBIs in the same season.

50 years ago today, the Montreal Expos played their final 2 games at Jarry Park. Unfortunately, the Expos dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Phillies, 4-1 and 2-1. Trivia: - Ellis Valentine scored the Expos' final run at Jarry Park. - Phils' slugger Greg Luzinski hit the final HR.

Please take a moment to remember former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Victor Cruz who passed away 22 years ago today when he was just 46. He could be called the Blue Jays' first closer. In 1978, he posted a 7-3 record and a 1.71 ERA and recorded nine saves.

47 years ago today, Bill Gullickson made his MLB debut for the Montreal Expos. He entered the game in relief in the eighth inning and pitched a scoreless inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Expos' 10-1 loss at Three Rivers Stadium.
