Anyone else coming to the free viewing party and beer garden in Occidental Park today? So much talk about keeping the World Cup spirit, let's prove it's possible! @theurbanist.org @citycastseattle.bsky.social
"What we found out this summer is that people are hungry for community, and people are hungry to gather together," she said. "They love that atmosphere of just cheering on their favorite teams with fellow fans."
Now, neighborhood businesses want ta capitalize on that hunger during Seahawks games, too.
For the Seahawks' first game, merchants like the sneaker store Hometeam Seattle ano Darkalino's cafe are rebuilding the World-Cup- style beer garden and bringing back a 25-foot TV screen where people can watch the game for free in Occidental Park

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with Sayles so far. He is clearly making a distinct effort to distinguish himself from Barnes, not just in word/demeanor, but action. Most importantly, he seems to be taking his relationship and collaboration with CARE seriously.
Sayles: - met with Amy twice over the seven days I've been interim chief. met Amy at a - community meeting last year, where there was a situation that required CARE, and we CO- responded to that situation together. We've had a good conversation over the last week about some of the things that we want to do. So it's bringing in SPD, bringing CARE to the table, bringing in Fire, bringing in the mayor's office. And prior to us leaving the room, everybody agreeing that this is what we're going to do, bringing in [the Seattle Police Officers Guild] and saying, 'Hey, this is what we're looking at,' and putting a lock on that door before we leave, and everybody can walk out saying, '1 like the collective idea that we came up with together."

Am I understanding this correctly that we are paying for a millionaire to get a 20% tax credit and possible grants to do renovations on their private home?
In addition to placing the house under a review process for any significant architectural changes to protected elements, the landmarks program also make properties eligible for grants-in-aid and the historic rehabilitation tax credit which allows owners and some lessees to take a 20% income tax credit on rehabilitation costs.

What also infuriates me is that each dollar illegally earned by stripping wire causes a hundred dollars of damage.
He further said that while the value of these materials is only about $1,000, but it will cost about $100,000 in labor costs to set up traffic control on the bridge, assess the streetlights, and fix them.

The $1M is for expanded social services, not police.
While increased police presence is one part of this new approach, we know we can't arrest our way out of these problems. That's why we're also deploying $1.1 million of one-time funding to immediately support additional services in the neighborhood, including a neighborhood outreach staff to support service navigation, mobile overdose treatment and prevention teams, community activations to support neighbors and businesses, and more.

Well that's one way to get new transit riders...
“I know not everyone is a fan of Park & Rides, but services like this help more people get more comfortable with the idea of getting a ride to a hospital for a psych check,” said Sound Transit CEO Dow Constantine. “And then with any luck, that’s when their loved ones permanently take away the keys, et voila, you have a new public transit rider for life.”

I believe they've gotten WSLE down to within 500mil of original projections and are at 30% design. 2032 is still on the books as grand opening and we heard as recently as yesterday that it was 'shovel ready' with construction starting as soon as this year.

In case anyone's looking to use the Spokane Bridge without any cars on it, weekend after next is your chance! @seattlebikeblog.com @westseattlebikeblg.bsky.social
Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) closing May 16-17 to people driving
Starting Saturday, May 16 and continuing through Sunday, May 17, 2026, the South Spokane Swing Bridge (also called The Low Bridge) will be closed to all vehicle traffic for the weekend. However, people on bicycles and walking will still be able to use the bridge, with possible delays associated with bridge openings for boat passage and as part of the maintenance work. During this time, crews will replace the tail lock cylinder, motor and hydraulic pump.

Trying this again because I got it totally backwards last time. Is this the route you'd have bikes coming from Spokane? Seems workable and better than the stairs thats supposed to connect to the westbound bike lane.

Despite hundreds of thousands of additional downtown commuters and major road closures today, there were *fewer* car commuters. Imagine if we invested this much in getting people on transit every day. We could pedestrianize so many streets!
Traffic runnina faster than normal. WSDOT says
Travel times around the Seattle area are shorter than on the tvpical Wednesday, according to RB McKeon, a regional spokesperson with the Washington State Department of Transportation.
"We believe that parade goers have heeded quite literally everyone's advice and are utilizing one of the many transit options to get to the parade," McKeon wrote in an email
The largest backups seen this morning were from Albro Place to the West Seattle Bridge, and about a mile backup approaching the lane reductions on the Ship Canal Bridge.
On Interstate 5 south of Lynnwood, travel times at 8:3o a.m. were about 46 minutes, roughly 5 minutes faster than on a typical Wednesday.
McKeon said there had been no observed traffic backups or collisions on Highway 99, Highway 520 or the I-9o bridges.
"It's a good day for a parade," McKeon said.

I'm sorry, but admitting you don't know the board member of the organization you are the CEO of is more of an indictment than a defense.
Jimenez briefly defended himself at Thursday's meeting, accusing the board of violating his due process and failing to complete a proper review of his performance.
"There are a lot of allegations and a lot of unsubstantiated claims, 35 he said. "I don't know most of you. None of you have engaged with
me.'

Refusal to move to the city because of worry about job insecurity shows a shocking lack of commitment to the project and a real sign he shouldn't have taken the job in the first place.
The hotly contested and divided vote by the board of directors follows months of complaints by some outspoken members and outside observers that Jimenez had not laid a clear path forward for the housing developer, was dismissive of outside input and criticism, and was difficult to pin down. Jimenez does not currently live in Seattle - a point of frustratior for some board members, but, according to Jimenez, the result of his iob insecurity.

Much talk centered on the belief that the 100-bullet-plus gunfire was related to gang activity, and a vigil that night for an apparent gang member recently murdered in another part of the city. Why was that vigil held here? One theory in circulation, Capt. Bair said, was the fact that the park lends itself to an easy getaway route. She also affirmed that though SPD doesn’t currently have a Gang Unit in name, there are gang specialists in what’s currently known as the Gun Violence Reduction Unit.

I appreciate the contrast highlighted here. We hear repeatedly the difference in style and personality, but those represent only the surface of a substantive difference. One is inspired by the person and what he represents, the other is inspired by the mission and what it can accomplish.
