Below thread is good; I'd add to annoy people further: the left is split. So is the right. This is a left dominant seat, so only the left split mattered here, but these splits are bad news for both blocs where the blocs are closer. And the LD centre does not exist, at least here.

I could care less about football, and realise the sport is more corrupt than Trump, but allowing some idiot and evil Middle Eastern sheik to openly buy his way around the UK law.....is morally wrong and needs to be stopped.

Ah, unrepentant hard core philistinism. Quite a bit of it in the Labour party too, truth be told, but usually kept a lot more quiet, in both parties. Again, I see a huge space for a party that cares about culture, community spaces, for all.

Not really able to handle Big Debate right now but isn't it just that some people are using "Zionism" to mean "the core proposition of a 19th century nationalist movement i.e. that the Jewish people get a state" some people to mean "the ideology of the present expansionist settler movement"...

Burnham's Man City comments made me realise why I haven't bothered writing an article about politics since he became PM; he's so incoherent that there's nothing to properly engage with. He's very like Johnson where it's all a ragbag of random beliefs shaped by youthful idealism or career experiences

As Robert says, step 1 - discussions have continued since 1918; no result so far. No sign of one. Any system will favour someone; others will thus unite against it.

One issue on the PR referendum, or neverendum, is if we have another in say 2030, 19 years after the last, what is the reason not to have a Scottish one 3 years after that?

Its not a sustainable message for Labour for 3 years. I don't think that means an early election, so either they deliver something before May 29 or perish.

Its a very solid piece by Burnham; as in, he can write and make an argument. Starmer never could write anything, even using ghosts. I wonder if Kemi can come up with any counter beyond shrieking about the triple lock. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

Hague puts it politely, but more blunt: by May 29, what is Burnham going to get done? Can he tell us? Not including "I made a plan for change in the future" that doesn't count. www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...

I'm interested to know if the previous PA action on a base exposed lax base security, and as a result base security was improved, and actual terrorists (not just vandals) were caught. (Or was it all a public tip off and nothing really had improved?)

Human targets were marked by the IDF by hacking into cell phone networks. One interviewee estimated 60-70k Gazans had been marked-clearly including many, many people beyond those considered Hamas fighters-and another said it did not distinguish between kids and adults. The interviewees said the targets were hit at night when they were home with their families, who they could hear through their phones before initiating strikes. "How could you bomb when you hear a crying baby inside?" Abraham asked one of them.

I mean, at this point, it's fairly unambiguously paramilitarism. You've got a non-state actor using violence to further political objectives. It's flagrantly in breach of democratic principles several times over. Inaction would be the most ultimate failure of a democratic government.
