Lesbian samurai fantasy. That's basically what my three Izumo short story collections are all about. If that sounds right up your alley, then by all means, grab yourself a copy. Or five. 😂 #shortstory #sapphfic ko-fi.com/alinalee91/s...

The full, amazing review is from the Books of Horror group on Facebook, but this conclusion is mindblowing. "a near-perfect trilogy of books" Damn! alanbaxter.com.au/my-books/tal...
In the afterword, Baxter seems to imply that this may be the last of the dedicated Gulpepper collections, although I'm sure this mythos will pop up in more of his other work in the future. If that is the case, as devastated as I will be, we've been left with a near-perfect trilogy of books devoted to that strange town. The Rise gives newcomers the perfect excuse to follow that road that isn't listed on your map down to the coast and see what exactly is going on in the town the locals refer to as The Gulp.

Huge thanks to @damonyoung.com.au for reading and reviewing The Fall and The Rise in his latest Four Recent Reads post on Instagram. Proof that short reviews can be absolutely awesome. (And, for the record, I absolutely agree with his assessment of the other two books in the list.)
Photos of Damon holding copies of The Fall and The Rise (which were two out of four photos. Text reads:

1. THE BUFFALO HUNTER HUNTER, Stephen Graham Jones. Indigenous American vampirism in the old west, told beautifully. Nested framing stories with ventriloquist styles.

2. THE FALL, Alan Baxter. Small town horror, where the complicated domestic meets the skin-crawling and sanity-breaking cosmic. A novel in short stories.

3. THE RISE, Alan Baxter. As above, but somehow even more traumatising. Bastard.

4. THE TWO-BEAR MAMBO, Joe Lansdale. Grimy southern noir, but funny. Some of the best banter ever written.

Each book is a mosaic novel made up of 5 novellas. The Gulp and The Fall are also a mosaic novel of 10 novellas. And all three books make a mosaic novel across 15 novellas. But each novella stands alone as a complete story. Possibly my greatest writing achievement to date. #WelcomeToTheGulp #Booksky
The Gulp, The Fall and The Rise with lots of humbling praise.

Despite the time I've been doing this, I'm still a little guy with a pretty limited audience, so it really makes me happy to see these ratings just under a month after release. THE RISE appears to be... rising well! Thanks to everyone who's giving these books the love. It means the world. 🖤

New release! The greatest pirate treasure was never gold. It was power. Former Navy SEAL Dane Maddock thought he was chasing a legend. Deep in the Caribbean jungle, he and his partner “Bones” Bonebrake uncover the lost tomb of Henry Avery—the most successful pirate who ever lived.

Author/horror friends, please be wary of @caitlinmarceau.bsky.social and her publishing imprint Hedone Books. She took over DarkLit earlier this year and owes authors and editors there a lot of money but isn't paying up. She blocks anyone who queries her about it. Do your due diligence.

Now reading: Dourado, by David Wood. It's Indiana Jones, but direct-to-video and can't decide if aliens or God is the real mystery. Doesn't really matter. Lots of action, some fun setpieces, just don't try to think too hard and you'll have a good time as our heroes hunt down Goliath's sword.
