Geov Parrish was a friend, a co-blogger, a fellow traveler, and early on a bit of a mentor. He forged a much larger role in Seattle's political media scene than should have been possible. He will be missed.

With incisive commentary, wicked humor, and a generous spirit, the Eat the State! co-founder challenged readers to think critically and devoted his life to peace and social justice, even through years...

The messages in which officers Daniel Valencia and Matthew Stewart strategized their reports were part of a longer string of texts that started one hour and 14 minutes after they’d killed Joshua Musselman from more than 100 feet away as he was fleeing into his apartment.

‘I’m hoping we hit him at least once each lol’: SPD texts from 2024 killing show lack of probable cause
In messages, SPD officers hoped they inflicted maximum damage when they shot Joshua Musselman, mocked the police chief’s response to the killing.

In San Francisco, Lurie's RV ban—on which Dan Strauss' similar proposed ban in Seattle appears to be modeled—hasn't gotten people into shelter, but it has pushed them outside city limits, often after losing their RVs and becoming unsheltered. Is this what "success" will look like here?
missionlocal.org
S.F. cracked down on RV dwellers. A year later, many have left the city altogether.
Data shows that a year after San Francisco's RV ban, 1/3 of RV dwellers using city aid have moved outside city limits.

Contra this "burden" bullshit, I have heard *extensive* and *emotional* testimony from neighbors of tiny home villages about their feelings of pride and solidarity, and how their tiny home neighbors enhance the community in small ways (gardening, chatting) and large (safety).

Wow it's crazy that caving to the drooling MOAR COPS crowd is not going better. And appeasement usually works so well.

My hottest take is that Ram is better than Let It Be. My second hottest take is that Scarlett Johansson's Tom Waits cover album was pretty good.

Hey, check out this gigantic collections of old periodicals, including pulp magazines, comics, political stuff, and more! It's actually kind of extremely amazing. And it's all being shared by some kind of Gnostic religious group, apparently? luminist.org/archives/per...
Screenshot of a website showing rows of small magazine cover images labeled "dissident and countercultural periodicals", "occult, paranormal and metaphysical periodicals ", "science fiction, fantasy and weird fiction magazines", and "pulp fiction magazines".

Rick Beato fired the first salvo of making the term "yacht rock" into ragebait for aging boomers, but if we simply must turn every little goddamn thing into grist for the culture-war mill, I could not be more delighted if "Steely Dan isn't yacht rock" becomes an explicitly right-coded belief

In 1923, Washington State saw its largest KKK rally at People’s Park in the Renton Junction area less than one mile west of this community. At this “Konvention,” tens of thousands of people showed up to espouse their hatred for immigrants and people of color among other groups.

Bias cut--bold,pointless, misguided, audacious. Nonchalantly jaunty. Casually wrong. Guileless and brave. Unforgettable and bold yet futile and stupid. Strangely ordinary. Mundanely eerie. Noticeably boring. A quarter of a turn away from conformity. A half turn away from what it already is.

Tinsley hadn't planned to record a debut album, let alone release one in a physical format. With some help from John Richards, that dream became reality.

Whenever there's one of these "leftists gotta stop being so crazy and unreasonable," and you want an actual example of an actual leftist being crazy, it's always something like this: some random unnamed guy who said something years ago, and is being held up as an emblem of all progressive sins.
Naomi Ishisaka:
Progressives must ditch the all-or-nothing approachRobinson recalled a conversation where the person he was talking to said they couldn’t get behind a particular effort because there was no way we were going to get anywhere without first dismantling capitalism. He said that conversation still frustrates him years later because it revealed a privilege and lack of seriousness that has real-life consequences for people.

You can find Joseph selling outside of Bakery Noveau in Capitol Hill!I'm teaming up with Real Change to shine a spotlight on the incredible work of Real Change vendors in our community.
Help support my vendor partner this week by buying a paper or supporting them on Venmo!
