Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet support around a quarter of all marine life. At 1.5°C of warming, 70–90% of warm-water coral reefs could be lost. At 2°C, more than 99%. 📍 Daymaniyat Islands, Oman 📷 Warren Baverstock / Ocean Image Bank @unbiodiversity.bsky.social #oman

A diagram illustrating the impacts of climate warming on high mountain regions.

At lower levels of warming, glaciers retreat and snow cover declines. At higher levels, these changes accelerate sharply. The graphic shows increasing risks, including more severe floods, landslides and avalanches, damage to infrastructure, and growing pressure on water systems that supply billions of people. It also highlights broader consequences, such as rising sea levels and destabilisation of global climate and weather patterns.
