Fascinating tidbit in this interview with former Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont), he says that Texas Republicans anti-transgender ads aren't "resonating." "What Republicans are talking about is just not what the swing voter is really interested in." www.texasmonthly.com/news-politic...
DP: We’re still running transgender ads. It’s just not resonating. $100 million in ads, $125 million in ads, and nothing’s moved the needle here in Texas in a month in the Senate race. Let’s be honest. The 8 to 10 percent of voters in the middle who are going to decide this election, when they hear stuff about boys in girls’ sports, they don’t even know what you’re talking about. This never happened in their communities, and they’ve been hearing about it for so many years, and so many other people have been accused of it. What Republicans are talking about is just not what the swing voter is really interested in.

The alcohol market overall is in dire straits, but soju, led by Jinro, is growing quickly. And while the curiosity-gap headline might seem like A Lot to soju heads like myself, a shocking amount of ppl still haven't heard of it. Here's how Jinro is changing that. www.fastcompany.com/91587910/jin...

Not to be too editor-brained about this but both "Congressional candidate" and "Bed Stuy city councilor" are accurate and more descriptive ways to talk about the more notable ppl involved. but i guess it doesn't help reach the outrage quota for the day so 'Mamdani allies' it is.

This is, I suppose, a factually correct headline. But I think it’s sad to see the lows Gothamist has reached in what seems to be a misguided effort to shave off some of the Post’s reactionary readership

it obviously can't but i'm sure everyone who saw this tour left feeling like it was possible. and it's not tangible but keeping A fire lit, even if it's a fire that smacks of 2016, is probably a good thing for morale amid the breakneck slide into fascism.

For me, the biggest takeaway from Sophie Cunningham’s hard launch into the right-wing culture wars is how *lucrative* bigotry is now. There’s an entire conservative media ecosystem that will turn anyone willing to make transphobia their personal brand into a well-compensated star.

i know we all think the NYT op-ed board issuing a “hey wha hoppen with trans rights” piece is a little rich but don’t worry: about halfway through they make sure to tell us it’s okay to keep Just Asking Questions 👍
“It should be recognized that society is still grappling with the cultural and policy implications of the rapidly shifting understanding of gender. There are some issues - such as participation in sports and appropriate medical care for minors - that remain fiercely debated, even by those who broadly support trans rights. There should be room for those conversations.”
