Nihar Shah did a heroic experiment for TMLR: he spent 20-25 hours over two weeks interviewing authors of seemingly low-quality submissions about their own papers. He confirmed what we all suspected: people submitting these papers have *no idea* what is going on in them.

AISTATS CfP is out virtual.aistats.org/Conferences/... . They also have submission quotas like ICLR 2027: - No more than 12 submissions per author. - Authors who do not have at least one accepted paper at ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, or AISTATS may appear as a co-author on at most 3 submissions.

The coverage on this OpenAI incident is abysmal. Use of the terms "rogue" and "loss of human control" lead to groupthink as people lack the critical skills to understand the difference between "autonomy" and faulty reward functions in AI on a task it was directed and given access to do.

We just published a blog post on AI-generated papers in the Position Paper Track. The core issue is not whether AI can be useful, but who bears the cost of verifying AI-generated text in peer review. We have desk-rejected around 30% of submissions, with roughly 60% of these w/o an appeal option.

If you are using intrinsic dimension (ID) estimators to understand what your neural network is doing, you should probably check out this paper. tl;dr: we prove that you are not measuring ID at all, but instead likely something much closer to entropy.

What is wild to me is the defense, BY THE NEURIPS BOARD, that fabricated citations do not mean "the content of the papers themselves [is] necessarily invalidated" It does. It very much does. What do you think citing other work is for? What do you think writing a paper is for? What do you *think*?
