Benzine Magazine in France has reviewed Eutopie, the French translation by Laurent Philibert-Caillat of my old horror novel Eutopia. From what I can tell with my rusty high school French, it seems quite positive. www.benzinemag.net/2026/08/07/e...

The line includes books by Joey Comeau, Sarah Langan, Sophie White and Jon Hornor Jacobs, as curated by @neurotwist.bsky.social. Which is to say, its very good company for my nasty bit of body horror about eugenics, American utopianism and monsters.

Eutopie, the French translation of my novel Eutopia's been out in France since June 4, and now it's also available in North America - on shelves in Quebec and elsewhere, and of course in e-book format all over the place. It's the newest in Fleuve Editions' Styx line of horror translations.

I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed it! This is the first novel of mine to receive a translation - and was my first solo novel - and yours is the first reader reaction I've seen. Thanks so much for sharing.

It is not quite Book Birthday for Eutopie, the French translation of my old horror novel about eugenics, the American experiment and gross monsters, Eutopia: A Novel of Terrible Optimism. That's June 4. but today, June 1, author copies arrived from publisher Fleuve Styx. Beauties, aren't they?

When @madelineashby.bsky.social and I co-edited Licence Expired: The Unauthorized James Bond back in 2015, the writers had no trouble at all coming up with James Bond stories in the Fleming mold. Perhaps Amazon should give one or two of them a call... www.goodreads.com/en/book/show...

Forget the Aston Martin! I want to see what that Bentley can do on the open road. If there's to be a big, improbable stunt, let 007 train up for it for a week or two, and pop some amphetamines for good measure. Also, it's well past time that James Bond beat a Nazi at bridge.

Give me the James Bond who guessed British TV licensing was a Soviet plot, while he mooned about his flat after Tiffany Case dumped him! Who fell hard for broken-nosed Honey Ryder after being moved by her back-story! Who snickered with Felix Leiter about Floridian pensioners on the boardwalk!

No one's done that yet - Craig's characterization did come close, but didn't place him in the post-War context that had the literary Bond make a bit of sense. And even Connery's James Bond - closer to the period - was a bit too laddish, far too smug, to fit with those books.

How about this: a total reboot of the films, to a time before Dr. No, set in the 1950s. Sand off the casual racism and misogyny, and tell stories about the patriotic self-destructive romantic that Fleming made up for his secret agent.

So @procreate.com released a new update with a completely different brush set not long ago. Confusing at first, but it got me thinking outside the norm, and tried my hand at a Turner pastiche. Didn't quite hit it... but I'm not unhappy with it either. #art
