I'm old enough to have grown up with family who fought in WWII. They rarely talked about it and when they did it was to warn, not glorify. Remembrance Day was a time of quiet, sombre reflection. They would be horrified at the twisted celebration it has become.

If only more people had thought that openly at the time. In his memoir KR admits that he was "trying it" with the album to some extent (no single etc.) but yes it was routinely nitpicked over and slagged off at the time, probably for KR's "crime" of not being Shane MacGowan. I regarded it as genius.
