Exclusive: More than half of global sulfur hexafluoride emissions, a climate pollutant 24,300 times worse than CO2, come from China. An inexpensive recycling program could help slash emissions, an @insideclimatenews.org analysis concludes. My latest, w/ Rudy Lu and @peteraldhous.com. Article ⬇️

This important NYT op-ed shows how the accounting rules for tracking greenhouse gas emissions — the Greenhouse Gas Protocols, managed by the World Resources Institute — favor special interests over science. Two leading experts have already resigned over this. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/17/o...

To have any chance at all of dealing with climate overshoot past 1.5 C in a timely way, we must cut CO2 emissions AND make extremely deep cuts to methane. But people are sometimes surprised to learn that most of our methane emissions come from the food system. drawdown.org/insights/we-...

So it looks like we will blow past 1.5˚C of warming. Some "overshoot" beyond this goal is now looking inevitable. But can we realistically return the planet to less than 1.5˚C of warming? Maybe, but I have my doubts about some of the proposed pathways to do so.

It would be “interesting” to see various countries, e.g. the U.S., Russia, China, Japan, and the EU, agree about how much of what kind of geo-engineering to deploy to reach a mutually agreed upon average temperature.

The fact is, methane has caused about 30% of the warming we have seen to date. And all non-CO2 warming pollution, taken together, has caused about half of the warming so far. And of the CO2 warming we have seen, a big chunk of that has been caused by deforestation.

My car’s tires are low on air, so the car is wasting fuel. I could: • inflate the tires, OR: • point out that under-inflated tires get hot, and if I could gather that heat and pump it into a balloon attached to the car, I could take some of the load off the tires…

According to Kinder Institute For Urban Research at Rice University, Texas is 83.9% urban, similar to Maryland and Washington State. Arizona, California, and Florida are about 90% urban. Since 2022, U.S. Census defines “urban” as population 5000+, w/ 2000+ housing units, and commercial areas nearby.
