It's because the printed top of a gameboard is like a hardcover book cover where the image wraps around the board and is slightly visible on the back side. Lots of it is then covered up by another sheet, but not all of it, and it's not specified in the template just how much of it will be!

I am working on a project right now and I was like "sure I'll set this up with like 3mm of bleed, should be fine" and then I get the soft proof from the factory and you know how much bleed it should have had? A FULL INCH!!!!

Don't know who needs to hear it, but some friendly reminders: - Save a layered version. - Save an incremental version so you can go back if you need. - Let it sit overnight so you can look it over with fresh eyes before actually submitting it. - Double-check how much bleed you need on the art.
