Nope, not entirely. He parades as principled in one forum and behaves at odds with that when it suits. It's a pattern.

Going along with Great Power aggression isn't contradictory to the speech says more than I did in terms of the emptiness and hypocrisy of Carney's principled pragmatism. Middle Power rhetoric has been a Canadian conceit without substance for years.

David Long @davidlooong.bsky.social · 28/02/2026
And in that speech, he called for cooperation of middle powers rather than sucking up to the unpredictable and violent impulses of the US.

David Long @davidlooong.bsky.social · 28/02/2026
Yes, I know that. He was all in for it before his 'big' speech at Davos which, like his Reith lectures, was really nothing more than a staging post of a campaign which had nothing to do with values and only with power and (his) self-interest.

So much for the rules-based order, eh Carney? What a hypocrite he is; there's no principle he's adopted that he can't flout. ... though it's a great Canadian variant of the attitude of our Southern neighbour's, I suppose.

Jim Radcliffe, neither immigration nor welfare benefits are at the heart of Britain’s challenges. No, the heart of the problem is people like you not paying their tax by living outside the UK. Pay up or shut up, you bigot.

But this is a description of US foreign policy ideas not a theory of international relations. Such a reduction is typical of US academic hegemony; it's a start, perhaps, to know this but just a start.
