He might turn out to be rubbish but I'm not taking a position based on the views of people who in all seriousness suggested we should go for Allardyce or Eddie Howe.

I have no idea whether the new #bcafc manager will be a success. What I do know is many of the people writing him off already did the same when the last guy turned up. They might be right of course but we'll have to see.

Trying to book a holiday in the UK - it seems there is no way in which one can state "I want a hotel not a self catering holiday let that is why I used the term hotel in my search" explicitly enough.

You've reminded me how annoyed I got this morning. "How can the five star £18 bottle be 'well worth the money' if the £3.50 bottle gets four stars you fucking idiot?"

I see what they were aiming for, but this formulation had me thinking of Gary Bowyer saying after the game: "Proud of the lads, fought hard for that fuck all against a good side. Another day you get minus points so to come away with the nothing we started with is something to build on"

Our local park had courts open to everyone. More often than not in use and also used for other stuff (my son and his mate used them as a makeshift cricket net). LTA put new nets in, padlocked the gates so you have to book and pay to play. No bugger in there ever now.

My late grandma - who brought up her autistic son when few people had even heard the word let alone knew what it meant - would reduce these people to tears within minutes.

Prefacing this with 'neurodivergence is real and impacts people in many different, often negative, ways' but just unfollowed someone because they described 'preferring to do something they like rather than something they don't like' as if it warranted some kind of fucking medal.

Had a similar thought when a FB appeal to "help find missing teen" was accompanied by a poster that would have led to days of uproar on here.

This is exactly the correct attitude to adopt. And I say that as someone who supports Bradford City and goes to the match with an ever dwindling cohort of older relatives rather than with my mates (none of whom were born in Bradford).

Just discoverer that the most condescending writer on The Guardian sports desk thinks referees aren't up to the job because none/so few of them have a degree. Amazing stuff.

Rare visit to FB and spotted someone asking for help finding a missing relative. If the same thing was posted on here the replies would all be aimed at shaming the poster for using an AI generated image.

Often hear the commentator suggesting the co-comms is under pressure in case their choice of MotM goes on to do something crap. This happened at Luton v Bradford when the MotM was announced shortly before he was sent off. Has this ever happened to one of your Nevilles, Smiths or Goodmans?

Thoroughly enjoyed it! Speaking of synchronicity, in order to make a self imposed curfew, I had to dash off to catch a train. This meant I couldn't stick around to get the book signed. Bumped into someone I hadn't seen in years on the way to the station and missed the bloody train.

"The Proclaimers come out swinging for Graham Linehan" is such a UK 2026 news story. His wife left him, nobody will hire him, he spends all his waking hours accusing teenagers of being terrorists and groomers online, but at least he's got two blokes with one song from 1988 in his corner.

Might take James to a family friendly West Yorkshire Indie night. "Right, I've got a Pernod and Black, you've got a Ribena. Now we stand here and let the goths do their thing then we go mental when they put The Wedding Present on. And remember, we do not talk to girls."

More lurker than participant on social media these days, but breaking my silence to punt out this piece I wrote for @thequietus.com - a reflection on J.G. Ballard's final novel Kingdom Come (20 years old, unfortunately relevant). thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

This goes away until the window blasts open again but I'm baffled by use of the redundant formulation, "it's been quite the journey from kicking a ball about as a boy on the playing fields of..." Until we start growing them in a lab wouldn't this apply to every professional footballer?

Really good, again. To build, among other things, such a growing air of concern about the future despite there not being any prospect of such a thing is quite an achievement.
