Still the absolute funniest "trailer remix" ever made -- as well as one of the very first of its kind, debuting in 2005 Every shot is perfectly chosen God I could watch this all day

Prefacing this with 'neurodivergence is real and impacts people in many different, often negative, ways' but just unfollowed someone because they described 'preferring to do something they like rather than something they don't like' as if it warranted some kind of fucking medal.

This is exactly the correct attitude to adopt. And I say that as someone who supports Bradford City and goes to the match with an ever dwindling cohort of older relatives rather than with my mates (none of whom were born in Bradford).

Just discoverer that the most condescending writer on The Guardian sports desk thinks referees aren't up to the job because none/so few of them have a degree. Amazing stuff.

Rare visit to FB and spotted someone asking for help finding a missing relative. If the same thing was posted on here the replies would all be aimed at shaming the poster for using an AI generated image.

Shame this extremely urgent, necessary and not at all ridiculous corrective can't be applied to Gerado's on Allerton Road, Bradford after what he did to my bonce in 1983

"The Proclaimers come out swinging for Graham Linehan" is such a UK 2026 news story. His wife left him, nobody will hire him, he spends all his waking hours accusing teenagers of being terrorists and groomers online, but at least he's got two blokes with one song from 1988 in his corner.

Venue in up and coming local area is promoting a "family friendly rave party" and I'm having to process all the reasons why the only people worse than the people who attend are the people who will be running it.

More lurker than participant on social media these days, but breaking my silence to punt out this piece I wrote for @thequietus.com - a reflection on J.G. Ballard's final novel Kingdom Come (20 years old, unfortunately relevant). thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

The Suburbs Dream of Violence: J.G. Ballard's Kingdom Come & England's Slide towards Fascism  | The Quietus
Louis Pattison re-reads J.G. Ballard's final novel, Kingdom Come, and wonders how correct his augury of England's slide towards fascism was.

Really good, again. To build, among other things, such a growing air of concern about the future despite there not being any prospect of such a thing is quite an achievement.

My son now has a mobile phone. I was ok with this until I realised he would use it to send me messages consisting of sad cat GIFs asking when I would be home from one of my very rare trips out of the house.

For some reason my son came downstairs while I was listening to stuff and asked to hear some Tears for Fears. I obliged but insisted he stick around for lots of other 80s classics. Can't decide whether he should learn how to play a square cut or the dance to She Sells Sanctuary tomorrow

much as the murder of Brianna Ghey mysteriously stopped being about the climate of transphobia in the UK and became about teen access to social media, the death of Jason Arday is, equally mysteriously, no longer about racism and is becoming about free speech in academia

Only noticed Arday's book in a bookshop because of the disproportionate coverage of a workplace disciplinary issue. Despite being on holiday I knew more about his CV than anything else going on at home. I assume that the press will conclude that the result of their efforts was simply unfortunate.

Data protection law benefits individual privacy in a number of ways relating to how private companies use (or do not use) your personal data but any experts focussing on how regulators enforce (or do not enforce) the law are missing the point. (Public sector use of personal data is another matter)
