Not that it was boring or anything, but the idea of a foreign country closing the park for citizens for a week, privatising one of the most iconic monuments of Brussels for its national celebration, is bothering me. It would be ok if it was BAU. But no other country would be allowed to do so.

⚡️Not all heroes wear capes. These little machines are Europe's most powerful energy security tool. 💸 🏠 Across Europe, 29 million heat pumps now provide as much heat as more than 200 LNG tankers. Last year alone, they saved Europeans €9.7 billion in gas imports.

A new analysis says that heat pumps avoided a staggering €9.7 billion in import costs alone last year.

This study on the prevalence of low-level gas leaks is consistent with important research from the @eeb.org @davidesabbadin.bsky.social that showed 40% of gas stoves in UK, NL and IT were leaking and that the leaking methane contained benzene.

🚨 Today we've filed a complaint against ENGIE, Eni Plenitude, Shell, and TotalEnergies for greenwashing. This harms the environment & discourages consumers from switching to heat pumps or solar. Greenwashing slows the energy transition, keeping consumers locked into volatile fossil fuel prices 🔒

The fight against PFAS started in the US (remember Dark Waters with Mark Ruffalo? 🎬). Now it’s raging in the EU -with an avant-garde push to ban ALL harmful PFAS wherever alternatives exist. That includes refrigerants (yes, your AC, your car’s AC ☀️🚗❄️). This is huge. #PFAS #ForeverChemicals

After two energy shocks, some countries are finally acting. Austria fully funds boiler replacements for low-income households. Belgium & Finland are cutting taxes to make fossil-free heating cheaper than gas. Germany & Spain are rolling out flat-rate public transport passes. Find more measures👇

Home decarbonisation needs to move faster. Europe needs a clear policy that bundles all these fossil-free solutions for homes together. Not fragmented measures, not piecemeal fixes, but a proper package that makes home electrification simple. We call them “Independence kits” 🏡⚡️💪

Europe needs ‘independence kits’ to electrify every home
Simple, ready-to-install technology kits could cut bills and end fossil dependence. Davide Sabbadin explains why this is exactly the kind of household-oriented policy the EU needs during crisis times.

🇪🇺 Independence kits for Europe! To achieve energy independence, we must scale and combine clean heat solutions where they’re most needed. As @davidesabbadin.bsky.social highlights, €78bn/year is missing to deliver this by 2050. This gap must be plugged and reflected in the next EU budget.

🛢️In a time when energy is being used as a weapon to undermine the policies and autonomy of entire economic regions such as the EU, empowering citizens to control their own heating and cooling should be a priority. 👉It’s also a measure that brings positive political momentum for legislators.

Sometimes, oversimplifying concepts is good to bring the discussion back to the bare facts. This here is valid for Europe, but it's also valid for any other economy strongly dependent on energy imports, increasingly annoyed by wannabe dictators who used to be your friend. Just saying.

The EU’s reaction to the Venezuelan coup is so weak that it amounts to: “Take what you want; we will not lift a finger". The EU is too divided to agree on any foreign policy, and its political, economic, and geographical space is now up for grabs. Greenland might change its flag in months.
