I'm 56, my early memories are of boom and bust under Thatcher. the recession in early 80s three years after Thatcher came to power, teachers strikes all through my secondary school meant no extra curricula activities and wave of redundancies at work in the second Tory recession of the early 90s.

A view from the real world here. Construction is in its 20th month of straight recession, everyone is laying people off and planning is so understaffed that every project that is happening is unable to get approval (fund more planners) It’s as bleak as 2008 in our industry.

The next #AHF50 Project of the Week is Portland Works. Fun fact: it is here that stainless steel cutlery was first produced back in 1914. 🍴 Today, the Grade II* site is a thriving artisan cooperative, home to over 30 different craftspeople and small manufacturers. 👇 ahfund.org.uk/anniversary/...

On this day in 1910 a young inexperienced Fred Karno company set sail for an American tour on the SS Cairnrona, taking Karno's slapstick visual comedy to vaudeville, the company included 21yr old Charlie Chaplin and 20 yr old Stan Laurel. The rest is history. #Fredkarno #thelegendbehindthelaughter

This week on his TV show, Nigel Farage laughed at a clip of a woman in tears because of the racism she’d experienced. “I can’t stop laughing,” he said. When people tell you who they are, believe them. And then don’t vote Reform.

I was the last year of O levels, the GCSE idea as we understood it, was to do exactly the opposite of this comment - a move to coursework assessment and away from pure exam, it worked initially too, until over time the coursework element disappeared and we ended up worse than the O level era.

My eldest has just completed an arts degree, my youngest is about to start one. I have no clue whether these will lead to a decent career or prospects, but I know one thing - they're both doing things they love, and in this bloody awful world that's about as good as it gets. Very proud of them both

I supported the Villa in my youth in the 70s and 80s then hooliganism in football put an end to my interest. When football comes up in conversation I still say - "last time I watched football, Jimmy Rimmer was in goal". RIP to a legend.

A great series and a great presenter, but this is not 1.11 of timing genius. Everyone can see the cut at 44 seconds, so it's just a case of timing the last 25 seconds with a planned time for launch and a countdown, and he takes his time over the final words to make use of the time, right?...right?

After they close the scheme to new accounts, will they still top up by 25% any deposits into existing schemes. So if you have £1 now, and put in £1000 in ten years time are you sure to get the £250 top up?
