If it were not for the internationals, then who would be teaching all the Dutch students and who would do the innovation that creates the foundation for economic growth in this country? If that link between univ's and development is denied, discussing the nationality of academics is of 2nd order...

Almost half of academics in the Netherlands are now foreigners. As in other sectors, only importing workers has allowed employment to increase. It's about time this gets recognized in national policy debates. alexandreafonso.substack.com/p/immigrants...

This is about publishing in economics journals but I found it fascinating and probably applicable in other fields/areas- about why/how two papers asking the same question with the same answer might have very different landing spots in terms of a journal jasonmfletcher.substack.com/p/how-to-wri...

Very excited to be traveling to @insead.bsky.social today for the 2026 SIOE Conference. While looking forward to the academic exchanges, I look with concern at the wildfires in the area that destroy nature and threaten people's livelihoods. Grateful to everyone who put their lives at risk.

No... Withdrawing an offer due to reasons unrelated to the candidate's expected job performance is always a failure... irrespective of whether that's because of a ranking or some other reason. Do not use your dislike for rankings to excuse this absolutely shitty human behavior!

I agree that rankings are nonsense, but this is not because a ranking failed... This isnl because a human administratornl failed...

One of our job market candidates at Tilburg University had an offer withdrawn very late by the institution's rector because Tilburg is not ranked in the top 200 in the QS ranking. All of this after they assured our candidate that the rector's approval would be a formality... This is frustrating...

Finally, you get to live in the Netherlands! I recently said to a friend: The Netherlands ruins other countries for you. Because if you've been here once, you'll never want to be anywhere else. Speaking Dutch in daily life is not necessary as everyone speaks English very well. Join us!

Niks is mono causaal.
