Very excited to be traveling to @insead.bsky.social today for the 2026 SIOE Conference. While looking forward to the academic exchanges, I look with concern at the wildfires in the area that destroy nature and threaten people's livelihoods. Grateful to everyone who put their lives at risk.

"We're shocked... Absolutely shocked... That you're actually doing the thing we asked you to do..." (While CDA wasn't in the government, they were part of this political consensus meandering through the Hague that Dutch education had some unspecified benefits)

First they threaten the University to switch all undergraduate programs to Dutch. And when universities appease by abandoning some English language programs they do a 180... Turncoats... I have no other words...

Finally, you get to live in the Netherlands! I recently said to a friend: The Netherlands ruins other countries for you. Because if you've been here once, you'll never want to be anywhere else. Speaking Dutch in daily life is not necessary as everyone speaks English very well. Join us!

It's Election Day and polling stations are set up on campus. I hope that sanity prevails this time in this insane world and the Netherlands gets a government the country deserves: one that invests in education and innovation.

"... in a country with virtually no limits on individual rights to purchase firearms." This omitted part of the sentence is crucial if one wants to be able to think about policy implications.

We then show that the positive effects arise from compliers that actually choose a leader, and that leaders influence team organization as it seems to increase decentralized information acquisition and problem solving.

We find that the treatment is equally effective when stressing a leader's role as a motivator or as a coordinator. Either intervention improves team performance.

We find a substantial positive effect of Leadership on team performance: The share of teams completing the task within 60 min increases from 44 to 63%, and a team’s average remaining time increases by about 75% (from 3m10s in Control to 5m29s in Leadership).

The fact that enough Dutch people voted for this man to become the senior coalition partner in the Dutch government is the best evidence for a widespread failure of the Dutch education system.
