I keep coming back to saying this, but "none of us is free until all of us are free" isn't just a theory about power, it's a statement of the threat to humanity posed by our tolerance for injustice against others.

This level of centralised command & control has me pretty convinced that I wouldn’t be able to teach in the UK. Seems like a huge, centralised middle finger to neurodivergent teachers. Disability provisions? Reasonable accommodations? Nope. Slide 1, cold call, slide 2, turn & talk, slide 3, notes.

People who spend too long immersed in sycophancy, get extremely thin skins. Doesn't matter if it's a pedophile billionaire and his hooting entourage, or someone who has outsourced their job to a chatbot. It utterly fucking destroys your ability to deal with being criticized or insulted.

Perfect ("satirical") summary of the AI bubble. The whole thing is gold: www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/ai-...
"Benjamin owns a farm. He employs 100 workers plowing his fields. His total payroll is $10 million/year. One day, he buys a mule, which provides the worker who uses it with a modest 10 percent productivity gain. Benjamin fires 99 of his workers and purchases 99 mules, expecting a 1,000 percent productivity gain. The driverless mules cause plow damage to his property in excess of $50 million. Benjamin loses another $5 million due to the loss of productivity from his one remaining employee, who no longer guides a plow but instead spends 100 percent of his time shoveling mule shit."

It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
Hi, thanks for posting! We do appreciate you thinking of us even though we have to moderate.

Our stance on all AI generated content (Images, Video, Voiceovers, and whatever else LLM based AI gets up to in the future):

At best, they are approximations of street fighter characters as the AI has no clue what it is trying to create. Because of this, there is no street fighter content so they are not allowed. (rule 1)

Also, they aren't allowed per our source rule. As AI sources cannot be tracked, we must assume that they use uncredited sources in the learning data. (rule 5)

Finally, AI images, video, text, and voiceovers are barely any different than posting a screenshot of a google search. The level of effort is so low that we consider it spam (rule 3).

Because of these reasons, AI art and other AI content is not allowed.

If you would like to contact the moderators about this removal, you can do so here.

AI is mainly championed by ppl who bluffed their way through life, never understanding how anything works. When AI promised to offload thinking from humans, they went "Finally, we can ALL drop the act!" only to be met with blank stares. So it's either embrace AI or admit they are failures as people.

An important form of high-level rejection is to push back against correlationism, which I
use to mean the idea that because things can appear similar that therefore their unobservable
properties must also match.17 My reflection in a mirror or a video of me may directly coincide
with many of my outward appearances, but are neither me nor a valuable model of me —
and relatedly, objects may act identically, but we may not be able to infer anything about the
similarities of their internal components, think of a clockwork versus a digital timepiece.18 This
becomes utterly damaging pedagogically when we assume the ‘output’ of an assignment, the
essay or horrifically the grade, is the essence. The point is for students to engage with the subject
matter and sharpen their writing skills such that they produce an argument the teacher can read.
Just because an AI product can create an essay-shaped piece of text, indicates nothing about
the ability of the learner, now reduced to the user of a product, to write. Worse, this frictionless
technology blocks the user from learning opportunities, such as mentally modelling what the
teacher may be asking, honing their theory of mind, dealing with feedback, as well as reading
materials and digesting them. And worse still, the design of these technologies is addictive
through weaponisation of the Eliza effect,19 people’s tendency to project human-likeness onto
computational systems, and the Barnum-Forer effect,20 the mistaken inference “that generic
personality descriptions that could apply to anybody, applies uniquely to them.”21
The second way to push back is to make space for, by fortifying our and our mentees’
time for, by designing tools and environments that promote, the slow and steady praxis of
modelling to explore our understandings and to
