It's hard to say because I turned 18 in 1980. I listened to way too much Egales/Jackson Browne/Laruel Canyon stuff before I got to college, and once I got there it was all Talking Heads, B-52's, Ramones ... then I bought the US version of the Clash's debut album, and that was that.

Before we moved way up north of Chicago, I had no idea that there are a whole variety of different sparrows around here. I thought they were all the same! We've got tree sparrows, house sparrows, song sparrows, and swamp sparrows. I still can't tell the difference between them, but they're cool.

Today is the 48th running of the Chicago Marathon. It’s been years since I ran a marathon (I ran Chicago in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006, and the Illinois Marathon in Urbana-Champaign on my 50th birthday in 2012), but it’s still one of my favorite days of the year.

Happy Saturday. This is one of the feral kittens we took in last year. We gave him the unimaginative name “Fluffy” before we realized that he would become a permanent fixture in our home. Anyway, he’s really sweet and we’re glad he’s ours now.
